Greg,
It might decrease durability. Hard to say because its difficult to test.
I know I've said this before so I don't want it to seem like a broken record, but layering waxes on top of Zaino seems counterproductive to me. It eliminates 2 of Zaino's 3 strengths - reflectivity and slickness. And it may affect the 3rd which is durability. Is the aesthetics worth it? Not IMO.
It remains to be seen how good NXT really is. No one outside of Meguiar's can accurately speak to its durability. Virtually all I've seen about it revolves around its swirl hiding and paint darkening abilities. Everyone is basing their opinions on nothing buy hype. Let's allow the critical eye of the true Autopian to pass judgement, nothing else.
Bret- you make some very good points. I really don't think I would like Zaino on my black car. I love the look of fresh Souveran on it where it looks like oil has been spilled on the paint. However, on our silver 350Z, I think it would look absolutely fantastic.
As for no one outside of Meguiars to comment on NXT, I agree. I also agree that Mike has presented himself in such a manner on the boards, that it is tough not to be a little jazzed about the product. Then when DavidB reviewed it, it solidified a lot of doubt in my mind that this wasn't just hype. There is also no doubt that Mike has done absolute wonders in marketing this product and has probably sold 10,000 units in February. However, I do feel that this his passion is genuine and that NXT won't be regarded as the typical over-hyped, underperforming products that have made me cynical about new products.
I can honestly think of probably $200 worth of products that I wouldn't pay for again. These products are from companies that have produced great hype originally, only to leave something to be desired in the end.
I know that in February/March/April, there will be about 1000 posts saying- my review of NXT, pictures inside. Inside there will be rave reviews, stunning pictures of black cars that look like liquid and all the usual tricks.
However, in a year, when a newbie asks in the University, what product should I use? Is the answer going to be AIO, SG, S100, Zaino (the standard favorites), or is it going to be, NXT Tech Wax, hands down, only time will tell.
I think a lot of people want so deeply to believe that there is one equation for the perfect shine, but there just isn't.
The truth is, there comes to a point where products are just products and cars are just cars. Cars are going to reach a level to where they just can't look any better, but it is simply human nature to want it to look that nth degree better and at that point
it comes down to personal preference. I'm done rambling for now, just some thoughts.
