Meguiar's New Engine Clean and Engine Dressing on YouTube

On most cars the electronics are water sealed if they're well designed.

I don't mean submersible, but can handle a splash of water - water-resistant rather than water-proof.

A warm engine not only helps with cleaning, but, (more importantly) helps dry it and prevents moisture settling in sensitive areas.

Best to drive it after cleaning an engine bay to ensure all moisture is gone fron nooks and crannies.

Right. I only use a gentle, indirect stream of water from an uncovered hose. That's it. Then I'll immediately blow dry and then turn on the engine. Would it be okay otherwise? Yea, sure. But that's my process.

That is pretty poor engineering on the part of MB up there with their S550 ballasts. That's an obvious part to waterproof. Judging strictly from the pics, though, the case shouldn't have gotten any water inside. It may have simply been damaged from a high pressure washer, perhaps just the incoming or outgoing wires got knocked loose a bit or damaged. And since MB obviously doesn't "repair," they would replace, on something especially like a S550, bingo you have a high cost right there for a relatively simple electrical component.

I like the idea of being able to spray the dressing onto the wet surface and letting it dry. I guess you can experiment with existing dressings but this cuts out the guess work.

Alfisti - That's definately one of the benefits of using water-based dressings on wet engines & wheel wells. Just cut the dressing 1/2 as much as they recommend.

A pressure washer is a very valuable tool in engine cleaning if it is used wisely. Keep the PSI reasonable (below 2000) and avoid the electronics period. For older engines that actually have metal in them, the pressure washer quickly and easily removes gunk that would take hours of scrubbing. I have never had one problem from pressure washing an engine because i am careful. If in doubt, leave it for the brushes.

As for these meg's products... i am not buying it. I am sure it is just as good or worse than any other APC. As for dressings, anything works. Aerospace 303, Hyper dressing, Engine kote, Cd2 engine detailer. Cd2 is my favorite, but i have tried a lot and they all work well.

I was thinking this would be the case as the last frames on the Youtube vid say something about International Markets.

I'd love to inspect this engine compartment. To me, this product doesn't seem any different than any other degreaser & water-based dressing? Interesting technique of using a huge brush to agitate the tops of the engine bay (only). Cleaning an engine compartment with the proper chemicals in conjustion with a pressure washer will create better results. No matter how much you scrub.

and take less time...
