!!!!! Meguiar's Lab Sample "d"!!!!!

However, I still maintain that customers base your expertise on the products you use, not your perfect washing technique... Sadly enough that, whenever I get a first time customer calling me, I would say about 80% of the time, I get asked, "what kind of wax do you use?" I start by priming the question that wax is such a little part of the equation that it is about paint preparation before the wax, then extolling the virtues of a synthetic sealant that will offer better protection such as PUPP which I often use on customers cars. I will guarantee 99/100 callers have never heard of Platinum. This triggers the response "this person knows something I don't."

Now I understand a little better.

Here is how I might handle the situation (keep in mind that I have almost 20 years in retail automobile sales)....

Customer: "What kind of wax do you use?"

Greg: [primes the question that wax is a small part of the equation, then continues], "Synthetic sealants work really great for my customers. For example, a synthetic sealant such as Platinum Ultimate looks great and offers much better protection!"

Customer: "Platinum, huh?" (to self:"This guy knows something I don't.") "OK, you got a deal!"

Customer [5 hours later]: "Wow! My car looks GREAT! Platinum, huh?"

Greg: "Actually, I used something new, something even better! Up until recently it was only known as 'Lab Sample D'! I heard about it from a guy who got some from one of the chemists at a major manufacturer; you're one of the few people in the world to have this product on his car!" (That statement will always be true, in a relative sense, you know.) Doesn't it look fantastic? No extra charge, by the way. I'm happy to satisfy you!"

Customer (to self): "This guy knows something no one else knows!" (to Greg): "C'mon, you can tell me!"

Greg: "Yes, but then I would have to kill you. Would it be worth it?"

It's all in the smoke and the mirrors!

Should be out after the first of the year. Could be Feb. before you can find it in the stores. :)

Lynn,

I know it usually takes time for retailers to get it and then put it out on their shelves. How about ordering directly from Meguiars? Any idea if they will hold out until it is available in the stores or do you think we will be able to order it directly after the first of the year?

Thanks

Checked with customer care and it looks like the first week in February it will be on the store shelves and available to order at the same time. Everything is manufactured in Tennessee and so it will hit the Meguiar’s headquarters in Irvine, CA at the same time it hits the stores.

Samples will be available earlier but don’t have a date yet. Will let you know if anything changes. ;)

Sheesh, I have so much stuff already, all a sample will do for me is keep me from using all my other stuff up. I'll wait.

Hi BW,

On the Honda Acura Legend I performed the comparison tests on, here are the results.

Products applied on the deck lid after it was washed at least two times with Dawn, then wiped down twice with a 50/50 mixture of Isopropyl Alcohol and water.

* NXT Tech Wax

* Klasse SG over Klasse AIO

* Zaino Z1 followed by Z5 with ZFX

* BlackFire All Finish Paint Protection over BlackFire Gloss Enhancing Polish

* P21S over P21S Paintwork Cleanser

* Pinnacle Souveran, (paste), over Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing Lotion

All products were applied to the best of my ability on a Thursday. The car was not touched again till the following week when I washed it, (a Tuesday if I remember correctly).

Note: The owner did nothing to the finish over the weekend, he did not wash it, and it did not rain. The car was parked outside throughout the duration of the test)

Upon visual inspection, the car was dirty with lots of light dust and ash residue, (This was the week/weekend of the big fires down here in SoCal).

I didn't want to Wipe the finish because this would skew any results due to micro abrasion. So I wet the car down heavily and then sprayed a strong spray of water over the finish and observed.

NXT - Good water beading

Klasse - Very little water beading

Zaino - Excellent water beading

BlackFire - Good water Beading

P21S - Good water Beading

Pinnacle - Good water Beading

Then, I washed the deck lid using Zaino Z-7 at the recommended dilution ratio.

Results: After washing one time with the Z7, I could tell no difference between any of the sections for water beading.

Then I dried the finish using a clean 100% cotton towel and inspected. After drying and inspecting in natural sunlight, I could see no visual difference in any of the sections.

Conclusion: In side-by-side comparison testing, none of the products tested proved superior in either water beading, or visual appearance after one gentle car wash. Certainly, no product excelled or proved superior in results.

So now BW, what do you think of that?

Am I credible in your eye’s?

Did you get the answer you were looking for?

I am going to repeat this test and would like anybody’s suggestions as to what products they would like tested. In fact… I would love for a local Autopian to assist me, and even conduct the application of products while I merely assist.

This time, we will prep the surface using a PC and the #83 DACP/W-8006 combo.

Any takers?

How about it BW… care to walk the talk? (I’ll buy you lunch)

Mike

Here's a diagram I drew up to document where I placed each product,
