megs color x...

I've used ColorX a few times. My best guess is that it is a chemical cleaner. On the Megs website it says it will get rid of scratches and swirls, but IMO...Chemical cleaner. I like the product...I'd compare it with AIO in terms of what it can do.

From Meguiar's website:

Meguiar’s® COLORX® is the tested and proven system to restore deep color and gloss from your oxidized or contaminated paint finish. Helps remove fine scratches and swirl marks too. Our polish and wax combination will dramatically revive brilliant color and add a long lasting protection that locks in the shine. For best results, apply with an Even-Coat Applicator and remove residue with a Supreme Shine® Microfiber or Ultra Plush Super Terry.

Here's what Mike Phillips says about ColorX:

ColorX is a strong cleaner/wax that contains both chemical cleaners as well as diminishing abrasives, so it does in fact have the ability to remove swirls and scratches, another way of saying this or thinking of this is to say that ColorX has the ability to remove paint.

IMO people usually overestimate how effective (mechanical/abrasive-wise) products like this will be. People also sometimes overestimate how gentle you need to be to preserve the clearcoat. If you can actually see the marring clearly, it's a pretty safe bet that you need something a lot stronger than Color-X; products containig mild abrasives can be so mild that you could use them all the time forever and never take off an appreciable amount of clear.

I ditto Accumulator on this one.....I bought it last year in FL (this is the type of stuff I fill the "other" suitcase with when on my American holiday's :D ).

For me it's just really a nice polish that does work well, but not well enough for removing swirls and scratches. I've even tried it on the PC, and it just brings back a nice finish but no removals unfortunately.

I need a rubber stamp with that on it that I can use to smack people in the head when they start whining that they don’t want to use anything abrasive.

(I dotted out the ColorX so I could hand write in any product suggestion on their forehead with a magic marker.)

PC.

The abrasives are primarily there for cleaning purposes and maybe round off some lighter swirlmarks.

Since it's a mass market OTC, they're not going to make it strong enough to get even an inexperienced consumer in trouble

It's a decent product. I've used it on beaters when I am too lazy to go multi-step. Decent shine and ok durability. Good cleaning ability, and milding polishing too. I'd rank it in the NU FINISH catagory...definately harsher than AIO.

And its very easy to wipe off too. I like it a lot. I don't really have the time for a proper cleaner polish session. So I use cleaner waxes such like ColorX & etc on my daily driven car most of the time. It makes it look new even after 5 yrs old car.

It's a shame we can't find alot of the stuff on these sites over here (UK), as there's some damn good products. It kinda seems that my trips to the States end up being a trolley-dash in Walmart to fill up with all the car-cleaning products - in fact, I could say that I find this more exciting than Disney ! :woohoo:

ColorX, love it as being a cleaner/polish, it does remove very light marring if worked in properly, not sure if it's filling or removing some clear. I won't count on it's protection that much...

I recommended it to some retired neighbors recently for their car with badly oxidized SS paint. I had offered to do their car, but they insisted on having their son do the work, so I suggested they pick up some ColorX. It fit the bill as a product that would help and was easy to find at the store. It came out fairly well, especially for someone who obviously worked by hand. I'd still like to get my hands on the car to see how much more of an improvement I could make.
