Meg's # 7 and #26...

I just received the above products...and was trying a quick application on my hood... What's the best way to apply and remove? Terry applicator, foam applic? MF or Terry for buffing?



I was finding both very difficult to buff out, what was i doing wrong? too much product, not letting it dry enough, or letting it dry too much?



Help??? :confused: :confused:
 
For Meguiar's #7, Apply to a section (like 1/4 or 1/3 of panel) and work it in. Then buff it out, no need to dry.



For Meguiar's #26, apply a really thin layer and let haze up, I usually let 45 minutes to an hour then buff.



Wouldn't hurt to spray some QD on the surface to aid in removal.

I use both MF to apply and buff out the No. 7 and 26. You mught be putting too much products. What i do is i apply the no.9 and keep on rubbing with medium pressure until it is almost gone, then i Buff it out with a clean MF. Work one section at a time. Do not do the entire car before buffing out. Also make sure that the car is dried out. It hazes if you are using damp towels. Do the same with the 26. Apply it til it is almost gone, then buff out with clean towel. This method seems to work for me. I used to haze but i realized i was not doing it properly.

So it sounds like I could apply #26 to the whole car while waiting

for it to haze. On my first attempt, I did the car in sections and probably did not wait long enough for the wax to haze.

45 Minutes??? :eek: :confused: I know some waxes should not sit for that long, is it really ok to leave it that long? I would imagine 5 minutes or 45 minutes and it won't be drying any more at that point probably right?
 
I've been using the #7/#26 combo on my cars for quite a while. Follow Jasons advice and your work will be easier and the results great. And yes, leave the wax on for 45 minutes it does make a difference.
 
:) i use a machine with the swirl free 99% of the time followed by 26

when you use the 7 ,use it sparingly straight lines,a mf towell will help polish it out.any residue will be taken care of by 26.when i apply the 26 ido one panel at a time,when done applying it to the panel i go back and wipie it off using a mf towell.i have not seen an advantage in letting it dry any longer,also thin is the key.
 
WOW, I took jason's advice and let it dry longer (not 45 minutes b/c it was getting dark), also used QD and an MF to buff out. I found the QD to really help, although, it coulda been the MF also...



Can this technique of using QD when buffing be used when removing other products as well?

I use QD to remove 3M polishes. I work and work it in with the PC and the remaining residue will need some QD to fully remove. with a rotary however, the polish borke down quickly and came off like Klasse AIO while wet, real easy.



Also, I use a terry cloth applicator for the #7 (hand, foam pad with PC) and a dry foam applicator pad for the #26 (paste, I use the PC with the liquid.)



I find the Meguiar's #26 easy to remove by hand, not as easy as blitz or Souveran, but easier than others.

A glaze is to fill in minor swirls and scratches and improve upon the finish. Basically a final prep step to get the finish as perfect as possible before applying the wax.



Its like applying a glaze over the top of a ham to make it nice and shiny, like what galze does to a car, just doesn't last, so wax is applied over it. A sealant like klasse SG, and Zaino, can not be put over a glaze because the oils will hinder bonding.

Jason,



I detailed my car yesterday. I put in Meg #9, followed by Meg's #7 and topped off with Meg's Gold Class.



Question1: I plan to wax next week, do i need to re-apply Meg's #7 (or #9 or both) or do i just wash the car then wax it it with Meg's Gold Class?



Question 2: My Pinnacle Detailing kit will arrive this week. What do you suggest given the following options on the same car which was just detailed?

a) Wash the car and just apply the souveran

b)Wash car, apply pinnacle paint cleansing lotion then top with souveran

c)Wash car, PPCL, apply Meg #7, top with souveran



Will the Pinnacle Cleansing lotion remove the #7 and Gold class which were applied??

1. Wash and wax with Gold Class, but I prefer becuase it doesn't have any cleaners in it like the Gold Class.



2. Wash the car and look at and feel the paint. If it is not smooth and has some very minor imperfections, PPCL away. Then #7 and Souveran.



If the paint is not rough and doesn't have any imperfections, Souveran.



Don't need the power of PPCL but need a little punch, try Meguiar's #7. Souveran.



Yes the PPCL will remove the Gold Class and #7. It will leave the paint squeaky clean and ready for a glaze and wax.



Did you ever clay your car before? I was just at wal-mart today, wow Mother's clay kit for $13.87! i was tempted to pick it up, but said, I have 400 gramd of clay, lots of Qd, I don't need it. I put the box back onto the shelf and took up a bottle of 3M auto upholstry protector. Went to look for the carpet protector and couldn't find it. Went to check out, and wow longs lines (5 minutes before closing.) Ran back to the car care section and put down the 3M and left.

Thanks Jason. Your advice makes a lot of sense. I clayed my car approximately 4 months ago using Mother's. I might have to run over at Wal mart to stock up... then again, the Pinnacle kit i am getting comes with a claybar as well...



I'm still feeling some slight roughness on the hood and trunk part, so i may have to PPCL then #7 then , souveran.

One more question... Is the #26 you refer to above the liquid or the paste? Does it matter? I'm using the #26 liquid yellow wax... Does your 45 minute rule still apply?

It can work with either one.



I wait 45 minutes after applying the paste by hand (even waited 2 hours on certain occasions while doing something else.) The tin is right next to my printer (waxed the plastic cover.) If you buy the paste one, look for the plastic container, its newer.



For the liquid I apply with the PC and foam finishing pad. The coat is so thing and even that it dries in about 30 minutes, but I can use the 15 minutes to take a breather or work on another part of the car (gosh got a gallon of this wax sitting here, gotta find some cars to detail.)



I do the finger swipe test. Wipe my index finger across a panel for 2 inches. If it comes off easy and is clear underneath, I remove. If not I wait a little longer.
