Meg's # 7 and #26...

excellent info jason, much appreciated.....

Any experience with Meg's Medallion Cleaner Wax? Tips to how best to apply and remove that? ;)

Meguiar's Medallion line is probably the only line out of Meguiar's I haven't used (use consumer, mirror glaze, body shop, the boat line.) Don't get me tempted to drop $30 or so on the paint cleaner and protectant, better suited for a bottle of Moet and Chandon White Star Champagne.................

Is it NOT a good product? :(

Not saying its bad, I was going to try it out since its the only Meguiar's line I haven't tried, but once you get a room full of supplies then adding anything else without using anything else up is a waste. I'll take the $30 for the two Medallion paint products and put it towards another hobby (this case wine and champagne tastin....errrrrr.collecting.)

I just haven't tried it (and I have Platinum, Blackfire, and Finish First on my test list.)

So many products, not enough cars. Do you think a dealership would let me detail a few of their cars for testing purposes?

Anyone in New York willing to let me Platinum or Blackfire your car? (exterior detail)

I'm right up in Westchester... a quick trip! Hell I'll even help!!! Just ordered a new PC too... :D

Seriously? Cool!

I got a PC and a CMA pad kit ready to go along with the products.

I'm currently in NJ during the weekdays to install flooring. I think I still got about 8 business days working on this floor (have to tear out and install 900 square feet of flooring.)

I'll be in Staten Island on the weekends. A good day would be Saturday, July 6 and the other Saturdays in July.

E-mail me at JasonC8301@aol.com to work out the details.

Once August 5 rolls around, I'll be gone to complete a 3 month adventure.

Chris S -

I've used the Medallion twins for about 10 years with great results. On daily drivers, I used the Cleaner once a year and the Protection 3 or 4 times a year. The products are very simple to apply and remove. There are no special tricks to using them successfully. The main drawback, IMO, is the fact that trim can be easily stained with white residue.

Despite my success with Medallion, I've decided to experiment. I just used up the last of my Medallion on my BMW, so it will serve as the "control group". A couple weeks ago, I tried Klasse AIO and SG for the first time on my Miata. This week, I will use my free Platinum samples on my Explorer. Then, we'll wait and see what looks best by the end of the summer.

Great discussion!!

How often can you use #7 or any glaze?? Could you apply it every

couple of months or should it be used once or twice a year??

Sure you can use a glaze often, mostly 4-6 times a year (based on my location, Meguiar's recommends using #7 9-12 times a year and waxing 10-12 times a year.)

Jason,

This weekend is not possible for me. Will be away, and the following weekend i'll have to see. I work a 4 day workweek, during the week would work better for me. I'll be in touch after the holiday weekend and we'll see if we can work something out.

You'd be willing to come up to Westchester right? SI for me is serious foreign territory!

Chris

Westchester is foreign country to me too. Only places I know well is Brooklyn (I can get to the supermarket, ale house, and SI mall, anywhere else is foreign to me (I don't even know what the closest street near the street I live on is named) and how to get to my godmother's house in Old Bridge, NJ (right there right now, "Installation of Pergo Presto" to come in a few weeks in Off-Topic section.)

Only if I had a license could drive up to Westchester! put finding the cash to take the road test coarse and the test itself is a little too much (what like $350-$400 for class and road test (and everything else the DMV charges for, application, photo, paper, toilet paper.......) on top of all that, they tell me the next road test appointment will be in 6 weeks, if I want any sooner I gotta pay an extra speed processing fee.

E-mail or PM to work something out.

i 've been told by the meguirs rep you can use 7 every time you wax, you'll have arms like popeye though

if you don't have swirls i'd stay with 3 or 4 times a year. i have used the medallion before and it is a fine product although i don't think you get the deep shine that i get with the 26,which also has the polymers for durability.i have it on my 540i which i am embarassed to say has not been done this summer and it still beads and shines fairley well. i have just been to busy with customers and show season has started. if you have a machine give the #82 swirl free polish a try,it gives the same results as 7 but easier to use

I normally glaze the car every other time I apply wax. If anything, I try to apply the glaze (meguiar's BSP Hand Polish) at least on horizontal panels and then follow it up with either Blitz or #26.

I don't think the glaze will strip all the wax off if you wax often, but it will remove most of the wax. I would always wax after a glaze application.

Why on just horizontal panels? Cuz those are most prone to contaminants and such? :nixweiss

I try to do the entire car every other time I wax, but sometimes I'm pressed for time or the car doesn't seem to need it. So doing the horizontal panels saves some time. I place a higher priority on the horizontal panels because those are the areas most prone to wax/glaze degradation and they are the easiest panels to detail. The VERY lowest panels (under the doors, bottom part of front and rear bumpers) are also prone to degradation as well, but I'm using Klasse on those areas.
