M205 users--how are you finishing?

RaskyR1- Thanks for the comparison between PO85RD and FPII, I might be choosing between them sometime soon.

RaskyR1 & WFEDWAR- Heh heh, I guess it's not all *THAT* surprising that two people get differing results with stuff, but you're sure muddying the waters about the UF vs. Menzerna cut levels

Heh heh...UF via rotary might be Accumulator-proof after all by the sound of it, but I hate my rotaries so much I doubt I'll ever give it a whirl :o

Rob Tomlin- I'll be interested to hear *your* take on M205. Beware the oh-so-tenacious residual oils ;)

i love the way 205 finishes off. when doing a complete correction i usually use m205 with a sonus white pad (sonus sfx 2). and after that about 95% of the time for most people/ clients that looks great. so after that i do an ipa wipe and then wax the car.

for select people i'll finish with a ultra finishing polish if the job calls for it/ customer wanted it.

m105 and m205 is basically a 3 step correction in 2 steps for average conditioned paint at least.

TID as a very nice chart showing how the cut varies between the two based on pad choice and paint hardness...you should check it out. :bigups

Yeah, I've seen that, but I always put more stock in the first-hand experiences of people I've come to respect ;)

I was too (and I went from M205 to LSP on my Yukon), until I tried a follow up with Menzerna 106 and saw how it improved upon the M205's finish, enough so that I'll seldom skip that final burnishing step in the future.

Interesting.

When I get the chance to use the M205, I will have to follow up with the Menz 106 to see if I notice any improvement as well.

I doubt that it will be on black paint though.

Yeah, I see it all the time where different people use the same products and get different results. I'm sure it can be traced back to differences in tools, techniques, and paint. Anyway, I really like UF. I can rely on UF to finish off better than anything else in my stash, while providing decent cut for a finishing polish, all with only 4-5 slow passes. I have several Menzerna polishes and the only one that is all that impressive to me is SIP, which almost works like magic on some paint. I just have never gotten any defect removal to speak of using FPII. I'm sure there's more to be had with a more agressive pad and machine, but I've only ever tried the Flex with a black CCS pad. Heck, I've gotten more defect removal with Prime Strong! Maybe I should try it again sometime to see if I'm missing something...

Not suprising since the menzerna has more polishing oils then M205.

I wouldn't have thought the oils had much to do with it since I used IPA/PrepWash after each  I learned my lesson about doing that after the ebpcivicsi Yukon episode.

It seems *to me* that M205 leaves more residual oils behind anyhow...I find them a real challenge to clean off/out of certain paints.
