Luv my new flex 3401

I have no issues with a Flex except on vertical panels it seems to work some muscles in my arm I do not normally use but never had any pain after a use.

Very happy to see you like it DC! I love mine. I originally got the GG and after about 2 hours (1st time ever using it) of feeling like I was using a jackhammer it suddenly wouldn't work anymore. I then sent it back for the Flex 3401. :Dancing Dot:

You should try running a Griots on 5 or 6 for a couple of hours OMG!

Man! You got that right!!! After using the GG and switching to the Flex the change in vibration (or lack there of) was so incredible I was as happy as could be. Never considered another D/A after that...

I think I will look into a side handle , thats what Im used to .

PAC doesnt seem to carry it , or I just cant find it here.

Im really surprised at the slower speeds you use Gweb! Maybe thats my problem too but it seems like you should be able to max out its potential, thats why I bought it ! But I dont want to wreck my hands either. If I used it for hours on end the way I was using it I think I would be really hurting.

Ill play around with it more ! :Dancing Dot:

Thanks guys!Your all awesome!

I bought my side handle at autodetailingsolutionsdotnet out of chandler AZ
Just search under the Flex line and it will be at the bottom of the page after the flex machines.

Congrats on your new Flex! My PE14-2 will be here tomorrow and I can hardly wait.

I have found slower speeds to be more effective and easier on my arms as well, and almost NO pressure is needed with Surbufs+Hyper Compound for cutting. I have the Edge adapter for mine so I have been able to use four, six, and even 8 inch pads on mine when needed.

Hmm, sounds like an argument a patrolman hears..."But officer, this car can do 155 mph, that's why I bought it so I can get home faster!" :driving:

Well yeah(!) doesnt everyone put their gas pedal to the floor?!

Seriously now........ I had a chance to try the lower speed today and it was much easier to handle and didnt feel like I was stressing my hands or arms.

But I did enjoy just letting the machine rip full speed better!

Let us know how you like it Chris! Did you get it yet?

DC,

You are welcome !

I think if you get the 5.5 backing plate and pad/s, you will like the Flex even more.. :)

I got my new Flex Rotary from Proper Auto Care, awhile back, and its been really nice - lighter, smaller footprint, different sound, mucho torque, but it took a few mins to get used to it, coming from the Makita 9227c.

It does everything you want a Rotary to do very well, except one thing - it does not top out at 3000, which I really like to use to dry out freshly cleaned pads quickly. I know, I'm spoiled... :)

We will see how sturdy it is when I do a big Bonanza Beechcraft airplane soon.., with the biggest pads I can find. I WILL be very happy to use it under the wings, where you really hate to have a big honking machine to hold up for hours at a time. Thank goodness I have big triceps..:)

I have been using it exclusively now and the Makita is my back up.

Which Flex are you referring to?

The 5.5 backing plate is standard (comes with the machine) on the XC3401 and the only option is the smaller 4 3/8 inch.

Are are you referring to the new Flex rotary using a 5.5 backing plate?

Jeff U -
Sorry I blew the sizes, I meant as you said, the smaller 4-3/8" backing plate with 5.5" pads on the Flex 3401VRG, which as we know, comes with the 5.5" backing plate for use with the 6" pads.

Have been using the smaller backing plate on the Flex 3401 VRG for almost 2 years, or so, when a really smart guy here, GEWB, showed us how he took the bigger backing plate and cut off a section of it to allow the next smaller pad size on it. It really changed the characteristics of the 3401VRG for me and I did this as well, and later when the smaller backing plate came out, changed to that one.

Thanks for catching my mistake - apologies to all.

Dan, you're too kind (thanks, my ego needed a boost this month). :Dancing Dot:

Good luck with your airplane Dan!Muscleman Ive done a couple ,just the interiors and have to say its really not my thing! Much happier sticking to cars!

Some day I may try the smaller backing plate but for now I really like my 6 " inch pads .

Probably go with another Milwaukee when my rotary dies , if it ever will! But im always open to reveiws and suggestions.

DC & Stokdgs,

What size pads do you favor when using your rotary polisher?

With what size backing plate?

Jeff U -

I always use my Rotary first, and it always has the 4.50" backing plate on it for the 5.25" Foam Pads.
I use the same plate/pad combination with my Flex 3401VRG Random Orbital.

I only use bigger plate and pads on my Rotary when I am doing really big, flat, straight, vehicles, etc., that are hopefully only needing a 1-Step process.
I might switch the backing plate on my Flex 3401VRG to the bigger one for the same reasons as this, if I was going an extra step or two.

I have at times, chucked on a backing plate for 3" and 4" foam or purple wool foam pads on the Rotary and also on my Meguiars G1110V2 PC for correction work and final polishing work in smaller places.

There are just as many people out there that think this is crazy as there are that think it is perfectly normal.
What you need to find out for yourself is what works best for you, the materials you use, the techniques you develop, and how you apply them to the different paint out there.

Good luck with your research and projects !

I finally had a chance to try out my smaller Flex backing plate when using a paint cleaner.

It does not seem to walk as it does with a bigger pad but the forced rotation still takes a more effort to change direction. It definitely seems better for smaller areas.
