LSP's of the future?

I do agree with sockster that some products seem to get a crazy amount of hype, then slowly peter out. That said, I've used OC a couple times now, have no relationship with Optimum (bought it from Justin, paid full price :D), and so far it has performed well for me. I have not had a chance to test the long term durability (obv...), but application wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be and ease of cleaning after application is very promising.

sockster - I am curious how you find OC? I didn't see you mention how you liked it aside from its high price.

As an aside, I still haven't tried BFWD, sounds like I need to.

well i cant comment durability wise becos im addicted to switching out lsps all the time. its like zaino now wgdps later or bfwd or some other carnauba like vics concours/ pin sov etc etc etc. although now i cant be bothered to compound out OC becos i the paint below is 99% defect free when i applied it. i just continue to layer all sorts of products on top.

looks wise i would say very close to zaino

Same here!

I don't see OC as being all hyped up, just honest reviews from the people who have used it.

I washed my ride on Monday, got rained on last night on my way home and the car still looks clean! Obviously when you get close up their are faint water spots from the rain but it still stays cleaner looking than it did before! :xyxthumbs

Rcokstar parking at work FTW!

For those that have used OC, does it bead water or sheet it?

It will bead in the rain and from washing unless you use the sheeting method. However, when using the pressure washer on it I'd say it definitely seems to act a little differently than a traditional wax/sealant.

Question: Do we really want to use a protectant that will last two to three years? What about water spots? What about staining and embedded contaminants? What about the paint swirls that invariably appear, no matter how attentive one tries to be during the washing process? Do the new protectants protect against all of this? Will we still not want to clay and polish the cars?

Only time will tell Al. :D

Seeing how well it releases the dirt on the car I'd be inclined to say that it will definitely reduce the amount of marring and bonded surface contaminants. Guess we'll see how my coating hold up after this coming winter. ;)

Haven't tried Opti-Coat yet, but Aquartz is scratch resistant. The idea is you get the car perfect before you apply it, then you don't have to worry about embedded contaminants.

If you want to polish your car then these coatings are not for you.

Opti-coat not in my future. I was shot down by DR. G because I ordered some when it first came out more than a year ago. I was a newbie then on coatings and applied it wrong. So I sent it back and got a refund (a bad decision). Now I am doing more cars and understand the concept and used other coatings. But since i returned a order Dr. G said I can no longer order it from him. I guess he has a point. But my business has changed. Oh well ............

I have some (OC) on order and am looking forward to trying out it and offering it to my clients.

When I told my wife about the stuff and what it does in simpleton terms ("no need to detail or wax your car for 4+ years because it's a semi-permanent coating") she says, "why would you want to do that? Nobody would ever have to come back to have you detail their cars."

Granted, she has a point.

I think you can buy it from Obsessive Detail if you email them.

How do you like the G' zox?[/QUOTE]

Almost like any other glass coating..highly reflective, good beading/sheeting.

Better resistance to water spots though not fool proof(Still gets etched if i leave it long enough)

It's also not 'bird s**t' proof....

It all depends on what you want..

ALL types of LSP's still holds their ground. NO absolute winner here IMO/IME.

Nope Justin has to submitt the waiver forms to Dr. G. (In fact Dr G was not to friendly when I spoke with him. He ended the call by saying "I have another call" and hung up on me) Left a bad taste in my mouth. And I have many of Optimum's products. (In fact I think I have all but one of his products) :(

I tend to think about OC differently that other sealants. I have been applying it new car DD's for previous clients, the idea being they don't *want* to spend a lot of time maintaining the car, so with OC they won't have to. I can not say this for sure, but I believe like Aquartz it is more scratch resistant than most clears. I do know it is much more resistant to water spot etchings. You can still get mineral deposits, but ime they are removed when washing. I do not know how it will hold up to heavy contamination, but I would *guess* you could clay it rather vigorously and not remove it. So basically, if you use touchless car washes (which most of my clients with low maintenance DDs do) you should be good to go.

Would I put it on my car? I don't know. I may, but I do like messing with LSPs sometimes so I don't know. But I am not what I would call a typical potential OC client.

A little anecdotal evidence; I worked on a car this week that I applied OC to a couple weeks ago (I know, only a couple weeks), but he parked overnight at a hotel beside a golf course and the sprinklers went off; had a ton of what would normally have been real pain in the butt spots; washed right off. That did make me happy. :)

For the sake of knowledge and to know how its done, are there any videos of the entire process of coatings in action?

OC will most definitely swirl. its happened to be when i tried to buff off an area of OC where excess was applied and hazed. Apparently it had cured already and cant be removed by buffing so when i applied more force it swirled

OC will most definitely swirl probably cos it acts like "clear". its happened to be when i tried to buff off an area of OC where excess was applied and hazed. Apparently it had cured already and cant be removed by buffing so when i applied more force it swirled. Nothing a compound cant take care of though
