Hey all, I'm thinking of trying one of these. Where can i find a good quality one that wont scratch and is as cheap as possible ?

thanks

I never recommend a MF glove for actually washing. To me, it just is not thick enough to pull dirt away from the paint like other wash mitts.

Well, i dont like the sheepskin ones much and i figure this would be better than a sponge ?

I like the Meg's Quick Detail Pad for washing. When I first suggested this, people tried to dissuade me, but I went ahead and it works fine. Apparently I'm not the only one that thinks this way based on this similar product . The sponge inside the Meg's is just the right size, and it doesn't seem to hold on to contaminants. I throw them in the wash when they get dirty. Available locally (Pep Boys, Advance had them on 1/2 price clearance), they should be around $4 ea.

The potential problem with MF wash mitts is that they can *really* grab hold of gritty dirt. They don't always release it during the rinse and then it can mar the paint. I haven't found them to clean all that well either. Might not be an issue depending on your wash technique..

I think I'll be with accumulator on this one... I've noticed that when washing with a MF mitt, even when vigorously rinsing in the wash bucket for 30 seconds or so, the mitt still has black/grey traces of dirt. I don't have this problem with sheepskins. This is why i demoted my MF mitts to wheel well, and rim duty.

I agree...I have two MF wash mitts, but they are used for other things now. I have two nice Excel sheepskins for washing cars now. I bought one for my parents for Christmas too.

I would agree (I have some older Microfibertech Elites that still don't look clean after using them to QEW off some gritty winter salt last year), except these pads (the Meg's, anyway) aren't grabby like a normal MF towel. If you look at the enlarged pic in the link I posted, you can see it looks a little different, and it's certainly different than the ZWipes MF sponge that I also have.

I haven't noticed any marring with these, although it hasn't had the toughest winter grime test yet. When is someone going to make a sheepskin covered sponge?

PS...there may be something different about the MF on the Meg's pad, the back of the package says "Incredibly thick-pile microfiber (Patent Pending) collects and traps liquid and dust with amazing absorbency." Take that for what it's worth.

EDIT: here's the patent application...kind of amazing that you can apply for a patent for putting a cloth around a sponge, but there is some mention of a proprietary Meg's cloth and the marketing of the whole gizmo. My guess is a lot of those claims would be knocked down before a patent would be granted.

i prefer the megs chenile sponge. i would think (as others have stated) that a MF mitt would hold on to dirst too much.

I should hope so, I'm shocked that the application was even made. Seems some lawyer didn't do his homework because there are so many products on the market that are cloth bound sponges inteded for car wash use. Either that or they made the application just to be able to say "patent pending"

I see TOL has a MF sponge for $6.95. Anyone tried this one ? Sounds like a great price - but i dont know much about chenille - will it scratch or swirl paint ?

If you're talking about the one with the big loops, it's kind of big and heavy (when it's filled with water) and the loops tend to snag on emblems/edges. It seems to be pretty paint safe, but I prefer the Meg's one that I have been using.

Would you have a link or know of where i could get one - I'm in Canada.

I see you have the link up on the other page - thanks !

Yeah, I don't like using looped mitts on paint. I once broke an emblem on a Riviera because the mitt got caught on the edge of one of the letters. The lettering was so thin and fragile, it didn't take much to snap the iera right off.

To my delight, the owner said he had that happen to him a bunch of times even with a sponge, and he wondered what the car would look like without the side badges! :) So I took the rest off and cleaned up the adhesive, and the owner left happy. That was still a valuable lesson for me though. My chenille loop mitt is now used for washing my wheels. I have some MF mitts that are used for washing other wheels.

IIRC, Meguiar's Canada doesn't necessarily have the same products/pricing as Meg's USA...what I can tell you is go to www.autogeek.net and they have the Meg's QD pad (as well as a bunch of other Megs's wash accessories http://www.autogeek.net/meguiar-s-detailing-tools-.html ) and the Cobra "Bone" which I linked above and was mentioned by SilverLexus (http://www.autogeek.net/the-bone.html ) Don't forget to boggle your mind with all the other wash products they have, and they say they ship to Canada. Perhaps some Canadians can chime in as to what local options you may have.

EDIT: I take it back, it's not really a boggling assortment of wash devices they have there.

Thanks for the info. They do ship to Canada - but the $16.99 shipping charge leaves me looking for other options.

I liked 'the bone' though - maybe they do offer it in Canada as well somewhere - i'll keep looking !
