Ok, this is the foam gun that I got from my ordeal with Dover Saddlery and them faking a Gilmour for $15. They said the only thing they could come up with to send me was this foam gun here.

Well, it got here today, and while I didnt have time for pics yet, I can post some thoughts. I used it with 1oz of Duragloss CWC and a drop of Dawn on the side of my 60x40 metal garage. Included with the box was the foamer, instruction sheet, and 3 jets. One for high, one for medium, one for low presures so you can set what you want. I have over 90psi at my hose so I chose yellow for my jet and set to spray away.



I noticed that everything is plastic on this unit, but it feels very high quality with a cool quick-disconnect at the nozzle. I tested just the sprayer and it was very nice indeed. I then connected the foam gun and went to work. HOLY CRAP, this thing is cool. Shoots out mounds and mounds of foam and with 1oz, I could foam for about 5min straight before I had to put in more soap. Foam was very thick. Action and sounds it made is just like the Gilmour on the videos, sounds just like it and produces soap that could be even foamier.



I was very impressed with this unit, and for $35 shipped, it's a cheaper alternative to the $65 Gilmour.

Do you feel that 1 oz of soap is adequate to wash the typical car? I'm semi-concerned about how much shampoo some folks are using with these foam guns. My paint is starting to feel terribly "dry" as a result of my Lowe's soap sprayer and the minimum of 2 ozs of soap required per wash.

Brandon1- Good find! I'm glad you found a serviceable, inexpensive alternative to the Gilmour. This could be just the thing for people who consider the Gilmour too expensive and who knows, some people might like it better anyhow.



Hope it works out as well for you as my foamguns have worked for me. With a little practice you'll probably be polishing far less frequently :D



You might want to experiment with different dilutions and techniques. I ended up preferring a rather liquid, sudsy output instead of thick foam, just worked better with the wash technique that I settled on. But I did a *LOT* of washes before I decided on what was right for me, and it's kinda interesting to see how different approaches work out.



If you get a chance, please post back about your experiences with it as you become more familiar with it.

Are you implying that 2oz's of soap is to little; therefore your paint feels dry? Or that 2oz's is too much and your paint feels dry? And for my third question: How does paint feel dry? To quote Gene Hackman in "BirdCage," "I don't understand.."

I've been using about 1oz of DG 901, Adams Car Wash and CG Maxi Suds in my gilmour (quart size I believe). Add water to dilute, and I use the "heaviest" mix setting to wash my 4Runner. I usually have enough to suds the vehicle, and then spray as I wipe with my mitt.
 
Ok guys, me and user "JuneBug" are using this today with pics of it in action and his wet looking rav-4.

I'm suggesting 2 ozs. is a lot. I normally use no more than 1/2 oz. per vehicle during a traditional wash session. (I always measure the quantity of soap going into the wash bucket along with 2 gallons of tepid water. I'll double the dosage with certain shampoos that I consider lower in lubricity or low on foam content. 1/2 oz. of soap in 2 gallons of water is my benchmark. I'm always try to use the least amount of soap possible that will provide excellent results.)

complete loss of slickness as you move from panel to panel. It can even be felt when wiping down with a WW post-washing phase. You can feel it with your hand as you move across panels, too.

Good, thanks. That's more in my comfort zone. Soap is an effective de-waxer when used in high enough concentration.



I think I need to try one of these - - even if it's not my cup of tea, wife/daughter can use it on the horses. Frankly, I'm quite surprised I've never seen these at the barn. It appears to be a huge time saver and offers superior results compared to hand-washing which takes quite a while.
 
Wow, some mighty strong-sounding shampoo mixes there...



I mix ~4-5 ounces of Shampoo to a gallon jug (the rest water) and fill the foamgun from that. And I usually use the weakest or next-t-weakest setting at the foamgun. But again, I'm not using it the way some poeple do.



But that has no apprciable affect on my LSPs either, and it still gets the vehicles clean.
 
I have used it today with about 2oz of foam but that was to make maximum foam for the picture session.



I will have pics up in a little while.
