Lets try this again, $30 foam gun!

This might be a dopey question, but I'd like to pose it. Do both foam guns (Gilmour and E-ZAll) drain down the quart container so it's empty - OR - do they simply feed a small amount of water into the container so it appears full?

My Gilmours run down to *empty*, they don't feed water into the tank.

Excellent, thanks for clarifying. That just expanded my comfort zone... :) ... you know exactly how much soap you've used. (That's kind of an issue for me.)

Just got mine yesterday. So far I really like it (even though it's $40 with the shipping), but I was confused as to how to mix soap for it. At first I tried a weak mixture of Megs NXT wash...

I mix ~4-5 ounces of Shampoo to a gallon jug (the rest water) and fill the foamgun from that...

This just sprayed water with a couple bubbles in it--this would not do. I dumped some water, added more NXT, and shook well. It seemed like a 50/50 mixture. This produced a lot more foam, though still not quite like the Rav4 has on it.

I thought it was draining the quart, though there was plenty left over for another wash or two. I'll keep my eye on this.

complete loss of slickness as you move from panel to panel. It can even be felt when wiping down with a WW post-washing phase.

I will say washing this way produced the slickest feeling panels I've experienced, at least during the wash itself. Whether or not I really am, I feel like I'm inducing less marring this way. With some practice I hope to get wash time equal to an ONR wash. I think my daughter will appreciate that I'm washing the cars with a horse sprayer. :chuckle:

Foamgun techniques differ, so maybe what I'm after isn't what *you're* after. I don't *want* thick, clingy foam for most jobs, so I guess it's not surprising that you ended up liking a much stronger mix. I did find your description of the weaker mix interesting though, so thanks for posting it.

I always wonder if my boosted water pressure and conditioned/softened water make for a significant difference :nixweiss

Given that you had solution left over, whereas I'll sometimes refill to finish *one* job, it sounds like we're approaching this from very different angles, which I'm sure *NOT* criticizing :D Gotta find what works for *you*.

Jester, do you have the $10 gun from Lowe's?

While it did not come in that package, yes, appears to be the same. You see those ribs on the top knob? I back it off one rib from full. Allows me to wash the entire using 2 oz. I do the following...

Rinse the car.

Foam/Soap up the tops, wash, rinse.

Foam/Soap up a side, wash, rinse.

Foam/Soap up the other side, wash, rinse.

Foam/Soap up a Rear bumper, wash, rinse.

Foam/Soap up a Front bumper, wash, rinse.

Foam/Soap two wheels, wash, rinse.

I do this because I think that the soap sitting on the car longer than this is too long and will start effecting your LSP.

My 2 cents.

Jester, that multi-nozzel looks just like the Carrand ones I bought from Autozone.

It doesn't have the bottle or same gun attachment bc mine are simply hose nozzles.

Carrand sent me a new one because the shutoff valve inside would not shut the flow off after a half-dozen uses.

They re-designed (I should say the Chinese re-designed) and placed a metal valve to replace the plastic one.

Mine looks just like the one above. Works pretty well, just wish it had a hair more water pressure.

My water is quite hard; this must affect the foam to some degree.

Within a few weeks I hope to!

Hello!

In the UK we are somewhat foam obsessed with our soap free foaming products. They cling to the dirt and soften it, you can then blast off with the hose.

If you apply your soap based to the car when its wet, it wont cling and help soften the dirt as well and be fairly reduced in its effectiveness.

Here is a quick demo at the forum i mostly post on Tyresmoke.Net: Quick Demo with Wonder Foam

You can see the foam being used and being discussed. Generally the higher pressure units create a denser foam.

Great pics @ $30 id love to get my hands on one!
