I still don't trust myself to finish with the rotary and not leave holograms, so I assume that they are there and finish up with the rotary. I have built my business on swirl-free, hologram-free paint--I can't risk leaving them behind. With FPII and the correct pad speed, I can finish swirl free, but I just can't take the chance of leaving something behind.

I understand. I have the same reputation for detailing, but I'm very excited about learning the rotary. I find with my Jetta(very soft paint) that I can't finish the paint the way I would like with the PC so the rotary is the next step. How do you find finishing with the PC on soft paint? Upon close inspection the PC will leave small half circle marks in soft paint, there is a post on this here some where. With my Jetta I find even using a finishing pad with fine polishes trying various speeds and pressure will not get rid of them. Most people would not even notice them but I do and it is not exceptable. Others on this site have mentioned the same problem with the PC and find the rotary finishes perfectly clear.

I know *exactly* what you are talking about. I find that finishing with the PC on *very* soft paint is better if you use a light polishing pad, such as the green SM Arnold pad, as opposed to a finishing pad. I know that RAG uses the propel2 green pad to finish with the rotary, he has a whole theory as to why some finishing pads will not finish as well as the polishing pads--I hope he sees this so that he can explain it--a wealth of information that guy. Anywho, on very soft paint, yep--still some mild micromarring that would not be there if I finished with the rotary. How do I rationalize that? I would rather risk some mild micromarring only present under 1000 watt halogens, than risk giving a car back to the owner with holograms on it. As I continue to increase my skill set with the rotary, I may start finishing more cars out with the tool, but right now I am living with the micromarring. :(

Ebp, what did you use to dress the Benz dash, or did you just use Megs Interior QD to clean and dress? I like the natural look of the dash, just curious your process on cleaning and dressing the interior. (already know what you did to the carpets, but the seats and dash would be great).

I steamed the crevices, wiped everything down with Meguiars interior QD, and finally protected the seats with an application of Lexol. I polished all wood with Klasse All-In-One.

No dressing, just wiped with APC 10:1, then the Meguiasr interior QD.

excellent job! god those first 2 pics will give me nightmares lol, and a great turnaround on the Benz for sure!! sweet

Thanks man....

I don't see how people buff without them??? No halogens, no buffing....

A pressure washer would have saved you alot of time on the wheels/doorjambs. Think about it.

I always use a PW for the wheels, wheel wells, lower panels, door jams, etc--then I switch to the "regular" hose for the rest of the washing/prep. :nixweiss

do you mean the wheels still gave you that much trouble?

A company called Magic bright makes an apc called green giant. Acid based but and undiluted it will eat up what ever you throw at it.

I was using an acid based wheel cleaner. I pressure washed, applied acid, applied degreaser to wheel wells/tires, then washed the door jams on that side while the cleaners dwelled. I then returned to the wheel area and srubbed the tires/wheel well with a brush, then pressure wash. Next I applied degreaser 10:1 to the wheel, agitated the barrels with an EZ detail brush, washed the outside area with a MF mitt, then PW'ed again. I repeated as needed--they had never been touched behind the spokes. :(
