Kind of a weird question here

but a weird situation warrants a weird question :hmph:

I bought my 05 Aspen White Subaru STi from Hindsdale Land Rover in (you guessed it) Hindsdale, IL. Long story short, they had the front bumper repainted (due to rock chips would be my guess) and there was overspray everywhere. Looked like **** and looked like they painted the bumper while it was on the car.

Long story short, today I noticed that the paint is starting to flake off. The paint underneath looks fine but it looks like they didnt prep the bumper for paint. I will be detailing the whole car this weekend (polish, and wax, etc.) and would like to know what the best way to get most of this paint off is? I was thinking a few bigger wooden toothpicks to flake the rest of the paint off.

What do you guys suggest? Ill try to post a pic after I get home from work.

Also, I don't know if the car has single stage paint, or a clearcoat. Looks like clearcoat, but if it's not do I need to go about polishing and waxing any differently than if it were clear coated?

On Ogden? You should've gone to Luxury Motors instead. Higher volume of sales and I hear they have good after sales service too. Got any pics?

Depending on what kind of paint was used you might getaway with using lacquer thinner. See if it softens the cheap paint you may have to soak the area in it. Then you should be able to scrape it carefully off with a credit card.

Unfortunately it won't be possible to "flake" the rest of the paint off. It might be coming off in small areas, but when you want the rest of it off it won't be that easy, plus it was painted for a reason, and if you do get all the paint off you might not like what you see. My advice is to live with until you can get it prepped and resprayed properly.

Nope, pretty much treat it the same, but it most likely has CC, at least that's what Paintscratch.com indicates.

If Luxury Motors had an 05 STi with comparable miles I would have gone there. The car isn't all that common.
