Just remembering the old days......

DavidB, what a character. He banned me in 2004 for no reason....just out of the blue. Took 3 yrs to get back on under a different name. Wish I can post the stories about him

I never really frequented/liked the Detail City forum. Seemed very biased and clicky. Seemed like the misfits of Autopia. Posts/threads of mine got deleted which was bull````. I did however like The Fuzz which was actually a couple of people who shared the profile to stir the pot.

Hey David,

If I had anything to do with any of your stuff getting deleted back in the old days (my tenure as owner of Detail City was 2002-2006 plus I got to manage for a little while in 2010 I think after PBMG acquired it) I apologize and blame it on youth and inexperience. Now that I am much older I don`t remember all of the things that we were up to but I do know a little about The Fuzz.

Huh, always surprised to hear about issues with DavidB, just for the record I had *zero* issues with him either on the Forums or when doing business with him. Zero, and there were plenty of opportunities for issues to have developed.

Lonnie- Heh heh, I have those books! Think I have two versions of the first one.

Huh#2, I don`t even remember that one...but I`d guess that it was another case where somebody said I should disregard my first-hand observations in favor of their (untested) opinion. Like, maybe something about how you "can`t layer SRP because of its abrasives and cleaners" (scare-quotes intentional).

I do remember when Meg`s NXT came and there was an on-line auction for the first bottle, which was donated to charity. What did it go for?? $200 rings a bell in my mind.

Who ever bought posted a picture of it. I liked the fact that it was OTC, smelled great, and 2.0 version was hydroscopic (IE, beaded water nicely). Still see it being used by many Meg lovers. Not so sure if you can buy it as Ultimate Wax has replaced.

My biggest recollection is when EPA VOC-regulations went in to effect, making production of some long-time forum favorites car-care chemicals impossible because they could not meet the "new" VOC regulations. One of those was Meg`s Professional #16 Wax, the blue Crayola crayon-smelling carnauba wax. Love that wax. Great value-priced wax. I know that other car-care chemical manufacturer`s changed their formulations for some of the products ,like Collinite 476S Double Detergent-proof wax. Even ChemSpec`s carpet cleaning chemicals cannot be shipped in my home state, Wisconsin, due to VOC regulations. Bummer!! I also think of products like PPG`s DX440 Wax and Grease Remover that was made for prepping metal before priming and painting. Great stuff for removing glue sealer around door, hood, and trunk/hatchback hinges. Too bad it`s not available anymore. Yup, some of us "older" detailing aficionados who have "squirreled" away our private stash of pre-VOC-compliant car-care chemicals know how well they work.
Like someone`s hashtag within this forum reads, " I clean cars, not the environment" Nope, not a tree-hugger. As a bumper sticker says of the timber industry in Wisconsin, "Try hugging a logger. Once you do you will NEVER go back to a tree!"

I don`t remember half the things I did back then but I`m pretty sure I didn`t delete any of your posts.

My battle was with all the shills and guys out to cause trouble on the forum.

It was never my plan to be the mayor of DC and I wasn`t really prepared for it. There were a lot of things I would have done differently.

I, OTOH, have in many ways *have* been The Autopian Heretic right from the start. My first post was about washing with a BHB (that was pre-foamgun too). That must`ve been back before Autumn `00 as I posted it from our previous house.

I was being a smart ***

Yeah, I got that :D Even considered posting that I knew! Even would`ve figured it without the emoji...see, we really *are* on the same wavelength a lot these days. (Guess different people might have differing views about the desirability of that ;) ).

EDIT: Now it was my turn to be too subtle...that " *have* " in my post was supposed to convey that I knew you were kidding but I, OTOH, was being serious.

I didn`t come on board until November or December of 2011, when I first bought our van.

The first online detailing store I stumbled upon was Detailer`s Domain. I found it through a Honda Odyssey forum. When I saw Phil`s store, I was so impressed and was delighted that it had a forum. On its forum I found Autogeek and from Autogeek I landed here.

I`ve learned a lot, but still haven`t worked my way up to amateur status.

I was always the forum level headed pragmatist.

I had to look up that word. It means " a person who is oriented toward the success or failure of a particular line of action, thought, etc.; a practical person."
So how can ANYONE who owns and drives a Corvette be considered "a practical person", unless you factor in the notion that they are driving a "sports car" with the performance of a Porsche or Ferrari for a fraction of the price?? (I`m gonna get crucified by the Corvette aficionados for putting "sports car" in quotation marks , am I not??)
It`s like saying "I own a black vehicle because I like detailing, but can never get it to look clean and perfect." Wait a minute... I DO own a black vehicle (even if it is in my wife`s name)! Never mind; we know who the hypocrite REALLY is.

I remember when I first joined Autopia many years back (lost my email, so had to register with new name last year) it was before micorfiber towels were common. So all the discussion was what brands of cotton towel was best to use, which imparted the fewest marring. I bought some Wamsutta 100% cotton USA towels as a result of the discussions, which stated many imported 100% cotton towels actually had polyester in them. Well, those towels were fantastic. I have one left today that I use after my shower and its getting pretty threadbare, but it`s the only towel I`ve found that actually absorbs properly. I`ve bought countless 100% cotton plush towels and they are TERRIBLE. I don`t see where towels are made in this country anymore, but there must be some decent absorbent towels out there somewhere.

I was there too - trying to find the best cotton towels to use with Zaino... :)
Later Zaino even started selling their own cotton towels..

In my personal adventures to find the best cotton towels for the shower, I have finally, come upon these bad boys that are really huge - all 3 - very heavy, and absorb water like the good old days of pure cotton towels, with cotton grown from the old JG Boswell Ranch, in Arizona..
Check these out - I love them !!! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BVZL99Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
