I've come to a conclusion with S100...LONG

Mother's Showtime Instant Detailer Creates the slickest surface I've seen from a quick detailer.

Hence my previous :hm . There must be something seriously wrong with your car if it isn't slick after mother's qd.

I usually let the s100 cure/settle for 30mins, 1hr, or even a couple hours if I have time. I've always used mother's showtime instead of FI. FI seems more like a cleaning/lube to me since showtime leaves a super slick surface.

I would believe that there is something wrong with the paint if it wasn't for the fact that it stays slick with any other carnauba I have used.

Any chance there's a lot of pollen in your area? Pollen is relatively abrasive and can quickly degrade the slickness of a wax...I wonder if it's all in Mother Nature's timing?

And while I think that others may have answered the question already, I'll chime in: yes, a properly prepped finish will bead water like a wax. If I applied GEPC or SMR to a panel and washed it, it would bead like crazy, but not for very long.

That IBIZ car wash may be the problem. I've never actually tried that stuff but the sales pitch is a dog and pony show full of lies about how Rolls Royce uses the wax.

I just did some detailing work for Rolls in Santa Barbara and they say they have never heard of the product.

It was actually very strange but they wanted me to only use windex on the windows but had no preference on the wax used.

Again i'm not saying it is the Ibiz, but you might want to change car washes to be sure.

This was the first time I had used the IBIZ car wash. I don't care for the wash, or their product in general, but I had some left over and decided to use it up....I have been using Meguiars Gold Class.

Here is my take (for what it's worth). I'm not a detailing expert, but I know a fair amount and I've gathered a lot from some very knowledgeable people.

I reread both your two previous threads. I see you didn't use the SEPC before the s100 cw.

I posted a thread here about a month ago about properly matching cleaners/waxes. The overall determination was that "all products should work with other products".

I have noticed from using Zymol Carbon that if I don't use HD-Cleanse before, the wax doesn't last as long at all. Maybe for the wax to properly cure to the paint, you need to have down their paintwork cleanser. Just a thought....

Call my crazy, but if I'm doing 3M SMR and then just a wax, I always use 3M wax. I did this on my sisters beetle back in january on one panel of the door, and just this past weekend I washed it and that part of the door is still beading. Granted it wasn't driven or washed inbetween that timeframe, but that is still pretty impressive considering it sat through a pretty bad winter.

Maybe after you SMR you don't want to use alcohol and then rewash the car. Maybe you need some of the fillers there for proper wax application.

Also, what was the temperature when you did this? I know dealing with Zymol that if you try to apply it in under 55 degree weather, it really won't cure with the paint. I believe this also applies to most carnauba waxes.

I did SMR, SEPC, and S100 on my BMW about 5 weeks ago. Only washed the car three times in that period, and just yesterday when I washed it, the water still beaded on most areas (some of the lower door panels didn't bead).

So my suggestion (FWIW), is to just wash the car with car shampoo, apply SEPC, then apply another coat of s100 wax and see how that goes. Skip the glaze, etc etc. Maybe washing with dawn hurt your finish somehow? I was never a fan of washing with a dish detergent.

Also, Mothers Showtime is by far the best cheap QD I have ever used, and if anything it makes my wax last longer. Slickness is for sure amazing, regardless what wax is underneath.

Are you testing for slickness with your finger tips of the back side (not palm side) of your fingers?

If I've repeated something that you have already tried and didn't work, then I apologize.

Good luck.

FWIW - good post, at least refreshing

Good post adg...it may have something to do with intermixing products...but I doubt it considering there have been numerous people on this board that have used the VM and S100 with great results, Scottwax most notably.

It's supposed to clear up this week (been raining all weekend), I am going to strip everything and start anew...I think I'm going to try the VM and S100 again, and weed out the Megs FI, and try the Mother Showtime. See if that eliminates the problem.

If that doesn't do it, looks like it's back to trusty #26 until I can decide on a polymer to try.:up

I would be curious for you to try SEPC and then s100 and just see if it makes any different. See if it proves my theory that it helps to stick with the same brand for a cleaner and wax.

Maybe just one section of your hood you do the full s100 setup.

You've gotten this far, might as well try it! :xyxthumbs

Final Polish (car polishes product) topped with S100 might be the answer. Final Polish is a polymer that lasts (according to the manufacturer) for 6 months. I find the Final Polish/S100 combo is as visually appealing as VM/S100 but should last longer.

As I said before, I really love Meg's #20 topped with S100!! It gives me the protection and the depth/gloss. I have no problem at all with water beading.

Here is a pic I just did today. This is #20 with S100 as a topper.

No pollen problems that I have noticed...most I get after the car sits outside for a long period is a light layer of dust.

Hey Aurorav8,

I just think your stepped up your level of perfection. You are noticing more what has always happened but you didn't actually notice.

I am crazy about the slickness of the car. Nothing lasts past one wash. NOTHING. So to retain the slickness, I just apply another coat of Pinnacle Souveran after every wash.

I have the AIO and a million coats of SG, but it still requires another coat of PS to restore the slikness. The look never changes, its always 1st class, and it always beads. But I agree, the slickness degrades after every wash. So I replentish it with another coat. I believe its the only way. It doesn't take long to apply the PS. It just glides on, and wipes straight off.

Aurora,

Rub a section down with a 50/50 mix of isopropyl and water to strip it all, and then apply the s100 straight to the paint. Recently I've been having problems with everything on my car. BF2 streaked like crazy, and s100 did just as you described.:nixweiss So, I went over a few areas last night with the 50/50 mix and applied BF2 straight to the paint. As miracle would have it, it didn't streak and it's beading like crazy(Maybe I need to start a new thread for the people having problems with BF2). It seems with my layer of BF s100 just wouldn't stick around on the paint... Try it and see if you get the same results with s100. My car is finally beading water again...

I think I'm going to experiment with what I have. Do half the hood with VM and S100, then QD with Mothers Showtime. The other half I'm either going to go with straight S100, and QD with Mothers, or do the S100 and VM and try the Final Inspection to see if that half fails because of the QD...I will post results over the weekend.
