Is ABC safe?

They might just want the fastest way to get rid of contaminants. Good point. Sometimes dealers also use too harsh chemicals and remove the clear coat on the vinyl dash. Usually a white chalky spot or area.

So in saying that are we to assume that you have read all owners manuals? Automoblie owners manuals don't say an awful lot in the area of taking care of your car. They pretty much just tell you what it does. It doesn't tell you how to do a lot of things that we do to our cars. The fact that all car manufacturers don't use ABC means nothing.

It means something? Or why would they not use it if it is the greatest thing in the world? Those manufacturers I mentioned don't seem to be present on the AI site at all. Your right, they don't say a whole lot in the section. Though, I know mine says and my younger sisters and folks cars(all different BTW) to not use acids in the owners manual. They state that pretty clear as a nono. I bet if you check in your owners manual you will find the same report. No acids. I got an idea. How about just for fun everyone checks their car owners manual in the car care section and see if it mentions not using acids on the vehicles paint? I am curious. Don't assume from my report, just check the manual. I don't doubt it works, I just doubt whether it is necessary or whether it can cause long term damage and is safe. No big deal.

Not flaming, I think that some autopians concerns are reasonable.

Knight-Hey, nothing wrong with being careful about something that might damage your car!

I can't comment on the other makes that don't recommend ABC, but I CAN tell you that it sure didn't damage my S8. OK, "not as far as I can tell". Note that I'm about as careful (read "OCD"/"paranoid") as anyone where that car is concerned!

FWIW, when I took delivery, Audi "higher-ups" had decreed that dealers (at least in my region) were to ONLY use 3M products in their new car prep. Now, I won't comment on whether or not every/any Audi dealer is following that directive ;) but it sure sounded like an agreement between businesses BASED on business (nothing wrong with that), rather than on what products are best for the particular maker's cars. The guys at the dealership felt that way too.

Anyhow, if you can't comfortably trust AI/ABC, don't use it. But it DOES get rid of the recurring, minute, rust spots that plague some cars. Gets rid of them PERMENENTLY, while with clay they keep coming back (at least mine did).

I don’t understand the paranoia with ABC. The acid that you are using isn’t hydrochloric acid or something like that. Its not like you are rubbing battery acid all over your car. You would be surprised at some of the things you use on your car that are “dangerous. The only way to get some of the invisible crud that lands on your paint out is by using something like the ABC method. Several companies make similar chemicals that work just as well. If you truly understand all that is contained in IFO then you would understand the necessity for something very strong to clean it off.

It’s not a weekly product you should be using. It may not even be a once a year kind of product you’ll have to use. It just depends on where you live. The more polluted the atmosphere the more need you have of it. The acids and chemicals in the air are worse than anything ABC will do to your car.

I agree with Accumulator. If you don’t feel safe using it then don’t use it. Don’t assume that it is harmful just because the owners manual didn’t say you could use it. It doesn’t say you can use polymer sealants either. Are you going to avoid those too? :p Trust people who know a little more about the product than you do. If you can’t do that then don’t use it. Its that simple.

I don't really understant all the paranoia either. If you are not comfortable with the product, use something else. The product is approved by some of the worlds largest automakers, what more do you want?

How about a sample. I think you guys have made some pretty valid points. So far, all I have heard is good things. ACCUM, I have an Audi 1.8T so I share your concerns. I am probably just as skeptical as you possible. LOL

Since everyone that has responded recently has tried it I would like to try it.

Knight- Nice choice of car! I'm glad to hear you're willing to take our opinions to heart and try the ABC. And I'm confident it'll work out OK on your A4; it got my S8 nice and clean.

Where are you located? As ABC can only be purchased in gallon jugs (and it isn't a frequent-use product), perhaps you can work something out with a fellow Autopian. Not sure how much I have left, myself. That minivan I used it on took a LOT!

I wonder how I go about getting a sample pack. If not I would like to work something out with someone, if that is possible.

Anyway, let me know people if your willing. I will try to get a sample from AI.

Thanks.

I would suggest that you contact autoint if you want a sample.

Over 50 posts and over 740 views on a system of products that most likely less than 10 people on the site have used. Probably not another 10 people that "need" it.

Unbelievable.
