Initial Thoughts on the Mytee Firebird

I got to use my new Firebird steamer today on a very nasty GMC Arcadia with third row seating. These are challenging interiors anyway, and this one is owned by a family of 8, so you can imagine what it looked like. The lady was embarrassed by its horrid condition, and asked me not to take any before pics of it. Im a man of my word, so I didnt.
I was sold on the Firebird for not only the price, but the size and performance stats. 50psi, 1 hour running time, 6 foot hose, some decent accessories, and the 350° steam temp.
It takes around 10 minutes to heat up, but once it does, it doesnt seem to loose pressure. The Arcadia had a lot of tight or hard to reach areas, all full of sticky stuff and melted candy. It also had some crayons that had melted in the carpet. The Firebird ripped right through it all like it wasnt even there. The interior took me 6 hours, and I think without it I would have been looking at more like 9 or 10.
It does have a couple cons though. The extentions make me feel like Im going to break something. Its built well and all, but it hasnt earned my confidence yet when it comes to putting any kind of pressure on the tools. My second con, and the big one for me, is it didnt come with the triangle accessory that most detailers rely on the most. The carpet tool is nice, but its just too big to do much with inside a car. The size, price, and power is more than enough to make up for those small cons though.
All in all Im really impressed with the machine. Its the best investment Ive made in a long time. I would highly recommend it to mobile guys who are looking to save space but still want a professional grade steamer without breaking the bank.

Mytee VS1500 Firebird Vapor Steamer

Thanks for sharing! a little sigh of relief on my end :) my Mytee Firebird is due to arrive tomorrow or Friday, so i'm pretty excited to give it a go as well!

Ok, here's my stupid question.................

I don't understand how steam can clean up melted candy and melted crayon etc. I can understand how it works on non porus surfaces, but not on fabric.

That looks like a rebranded Vapamore steamer. I had a Vapamore MR100 and it was absolutely terrible. Sorry, don't mean to burst your bubble, but I doubt it will last very long. Mine stopped working after at most 20 uses.

Does yours have a drain plug under it to empty the water from the reservoir?

The good steam cleaners are made in Italy.

I hope yours lasts a lot longer than mine did.

Im well aware of the Italian ones, but I cant spend that kind of money, nor do I have room in my truck for one. I dont think this machine would last long in a production enviroment, but time will tell how long it lasts in mine. And no it doesnt have a drain plug.

The crayons and things come out just like candle wax does. You have to get it hot enough that it starts to remelt so to speak. Once that happens, you can usually wipe it right up if the carpet isnt too plush. I used to clean doctors offices at night, and a nurse spilled a Scentcy warmer in the carpet. My boss laid a towel over it and sat a steam iron on the towel. A couple minutes later, the towel had absorbed the wax. Same concept..

I've been on the fence with this purchase but the more and more reviews I read like this the more persuaded I've become. This year might be the year to join the ranks of the steamer owners.....

Thanks for the information!! :bigups

Although they look similar; the specs are different.

I am hoping this is a good unit as I have been looking for a cheaper steamer for a awhile and this one has possibilities.

Cool !!!!

Nice info. I wonder if you can get the triangle tool elsewhere.

Ive done some searching and didnt find much. You can buy them for other machines, but they would probably be totally different. Maybe after the new wears off Ill get one and do some experimenting.

Update

7 hard months and over 200 vehicles later, and the Firebird is still operating flawlessly. I've not been easy on it at all, and its held up to the abuse. My only complaint is the carpet attatchment is a pos. The clips that hold the towel in place are cheap and are constantly popping off. I only use it for RV ceilings, but its a real headache dealing with it. Other than that, its been great and I have no other complaints. I would highly suggest it for anyone looking for an affordable steamer that's small but still powerful enough to tackle the big jobs.

Thanks for the update.

I have been seriously considering getting a steamer for vehicle and home interior use. This may be the unit I decide to go with as I really don't need an expensive VX5000 system at this time.

I use it inside the house a lot. Its great for tile floors, bathrooms, fridges, etc. I do a lot of RV interiors for a dealer, and I can usually do a full interior without using a single chemical unless I have to shampoo the carpet. I still prefer an extractor over a steamer for any carpet.

thanks for the update. this machine is on the top of my next major purchase list. every time im on a nasty job i think to myself 'man if i only had the mytee firebird right now'

Vapor steam is WONDERFUL on interiors as long as you play smart with the technology and understand the steam loosens. It's up to the user to absorb/remove all the dirt.

Ronny, I can help with this one. On a crayon you place a clean cloth over the crayon or wax that has been heated. The wax will transfer as you peel it up. Works the same way with an steam iron. On other debris is loosens it for easier wipe away and removal. Not a bullet proof solution but a good tool for certain jobs. I own a commercial unit and it works well but you need to know where to use it.

It is great on neglected jambs, greasy under the hood areas, key lock holes amd fabric or leather seats. .

i was considering changing my 5.5 hp shopvac into a wet vac and using that as a drying aid
