I just buff my car using dr jone's menzerna tutorial and didn't have much luck :( After I was done I have nothing but streaks as shown in the pictures..can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong? Im using a buffer like this one: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=46507

Im using the lake country white pad first then lake country black pad. I'm using df microfiber towel. I'm mixing a 50/50 methanol alcohol with water. Doing everything in the shade. After seeing my car with all those streaks I didn't even bother to using my ex on the car until i can figure out what am I doing wrong. btw I also still have major swirl.

continue with what your doing, if you want you can continue with the pc and either FP or IP again that should take care of it

how much more buffing is needed? it seems like it take forever..already spent 3 hr buffing car alone. Also it seems like the pad or the ip isnt

strong enought to remove scratches...

Yep! Then go get some junker hoods and practice. Technique is everything! It takes a while to learn how to buff so you don't have to use a swirl remover. With proper technique once you finish with the last polish stage you should have no swirls and no other products with hiding qualities should be needed. Also you may want to search out a cut and buff guy that specializes in high end resto's and learn from them. They are a wealth of knowledge.

From the second picture especially, they look like rotary holograms (very fine scratching from vigorous rotary use). FP is strong enough to remove the holograms, paired with a PC and a polishing pad.

If you put the rotary up on edge and apply too much pressure, you will be rewarded with holograms. Keep it level and use very little to no pressure on the machine.

how warm was it when you did this? I know you said you were in the shade, but streaking could occur if it's super hot like it is here in the bay area. Actually today is nice, but rest of this week has been hot!

South San Jose. PM me if you want to meet up or something.

Keep that polisher away from your car, really. A PC can run up to 6,000 OPM and oscillates instead of rotating. I usually run it at 3-4K OPM if I'm not removing swirls.

I would say your tool is the culprit. Get a PC kit from coastaltools with the 6" counterweight, the DAP-KIT from properautocare.com, and your problems should go away.

hey, here's some stuff from my PM plus some more:

my opinion...more experienced Autopians are free to agree or bash away :)

- You used 50/50 alcohol/water right? The tutorial says using QD makes the job easier. Meguiar's Final Inspection is good for this (easy to find, fairly cheap). For a mild abrasive I use Meguiar's #9 and it wipes off easy with just a MF towel. I did have some issues on a black Integra and ScratchX, though. The product was a PITA to remove.

- You should be fine using less product than the tutorial. I use about a nickel-sized drop of polish for a door panel. There should be a very thin layer of product on the paint.

- Did you buff the product enough? Until it started to flake and disappear?

Dr. Jones is a fellow Autopian that posted a tutorial a while back:

hm, you know what? I would say start off with stuff that's easy to use. Meguiar's, S100, and Clearkote are pretty user friendly IMO. Trying out a rotary and Mezerna's as your first go at detailing can prove to be frustrating, which is the case here.

Well i just pick up a pc btw is the white pad included any good? Also I have menzerna twins and poorboys ex and exp. the ex is for the black car. I reason I choose to use menzerna is becuase I heard it will not put no more scratch in unless the pad is dirty..seems like a no wrong do situation. Also dr j say with the ip use alcohol then with fi use detailer..unless i read wrong..

Most ppl don't use the white pad for much of anything. I used it once or twice to polish the glass with Autoglym and it worked pretty well.

In the tutorial, jgv's reply noted that he used nothing other than a MF towel to remove the mezerna. The purpose of the 50/50 alcohol/water is to remove any fillers that the polish may have so that you can see if the swirls are really gone.
