I think I've given up on S100...

It's a shame it won't last on your car. Your pictures with the S100 on your car are incredible.

I'm also thinking that the QD is what is killing it. Maybe try going a few days without a QD (I know, it's hard), wash it and then see if it's any different.

That would be really something if turned out it was the FI killing it. As far as I know I think FI is one of those "safe default" QDs that everyone agrees works with everything.

The S100 might not like the VM either. I'd start over with SEPC and then S100, nothing else.

I highly doubt it, especially since he had the same problem using #7 first. Besides, Vanilla Moose does have wax in it so even if the S100 was wearing off, Vanilla Moose would still be beading underneath.

I've been using the Vanilla Moose/S100 combo on my customer's cars and I am getting 3 months of beading on them. Granted, the Dallas climate is pretty good for wax (no industrial fallout or acid rain) and QEW is a very wax friendly car wash, but there is a big difference between 3-5 days and the 3 months I've been getting.

I second the motion to try another QD and see if that helps. Other than that, I am stumped.

Attached is a picture of a Lexus LS400 that I waxed on December 6th that I took on March 28th when I washed it and you can see even after 3 months and 3 weeks, it was still beading (yes, I did wax it that day!).

Well, I guess we're making slow progress with figuring out this problem. I will switch QD's and see what happens.

Any QD's I could pick up at a retail store(ie...Walmart, Pep Boys, Napa) that work good until I can decide which QD to order?

I think Pep Boys still carries The Wax Shop's Slick Stuff. It's pretty good stuff.

Meguiars #34 Final Inspection.

That's what I'm currently using, and eliminating...some suspect this might be causing the S100 to fail. Simple process of elimination, since that's what I've been using on it regularly.

Oops, guess I could have clarified a bit more on that. I use their Final Inspection.

I really don't want to switch back to #26, because I don't like the way it "looks" after it's been applied.

I may go the polymer route and see how that works. Now to research which polymer to use for a lighter colored car?

Ahhh.... FNG...he already uses Final Inspection as stated in an earlier post; he needs something different.

What about Mothers?

I'm hoping this is a case of missing [sarcasm] [/sarcasm] right? :D

I agree, try the Mothers QD called Showtime. Run a search on it here. Others may suggest Eagle One Wipe & Shine, which some people like too.

I got a gallon of Final Detail comming my way so Ill post how that goes. Im currently using FI with S100 and it lasts way more than 3-5 days for me.

Scottwax, has posted numerous fantastic examples of S100 as a topper over VM. That would lead me to believe that that's definately not the problem.

Nor is the basic S100. I consistantly have water beads refusing to slip off the hood at 70 miles and hour more than a month after application on a vehicle outside 24x7 3 blocks from the Pacific. A pretty extreme test in my opinion.

Well, hell I don't know then. I went out and took a pic of the beading, it was dark out so it's a little hard to see.

**note** It's only been 3 days since I last applied the S100, and you'll notice the beading is already starting to break up toward the top left corner of the pic, tomorrow it will be even more worn off.

Also, as much as it is beading in some spots, there is NO slickness what so ever to the vehicle.

I am getting real tight beads right now, but you can already see, that in spots..the S100 is already giving out.

Aurorav8,

When you say the wax is gone in 3-5 days, do you only mean in certain spots or do you mean the whole car? If it's only in certain spots, such as the ones I see looking at the picture, I wonder if it's heat related from the engine compartment. Does your hood have a heat shield installed on it? If it doesn't, the hood may get too hot from the engine in certain areas and maybe the wax melted off.

I used to wax a 91 camry quite often, but there was this area on the hood that always stopped beading water first, and it started fading after a few years. It wasn't until years later when a friend with a camry popped his hood open that I realized there's supposed to be a heat shield. The one I took care of didn't have one, just bare metal underneath. I think that's what caused the wax to not hold and the paint to be damaged.

I wonder if this is the problem you're having with your car.

Auroarav8 -

I've had pretty much the same experience with durability.

But look at it this way....if you really like to look of the shine, why not hit the car once a month? S100 / P21 takes just a few more minutes that a QD....so why not?

At the rate it's going for me, I'd be waxing it every weekend....which I wouldn't mind either, just disappointing that it doesn't last.

bcwang, It has a heat shield, but all the wax will be gone within a week. Not just on the hood.

Why don't you try what I like to do, put a layer of Meg's #20, (after #7) then S100.

I can not comment on the FI, as I do own a gallon of it and use it (usually before a complete detail), but not often. So I have no idea how it affects S100 in the long run.

I have some time this weekend, I think I am going to hit the old S100 with the FI and see what happens.
