I think I've given up on S100...

I was wondering if the car wash soap was a problem myself. But I use less than recommended to wash the car.

I don't live near any industrial parks, but like I said, #26 has lasted almost 3 months longer than the S100 seems to be.

sounds to me like it isn't curing well and it just coming off with your washing. I have had s100 on my roof for about three months and the beads have certainly suffered they are still there and so is the slickness. I would say it is a bad batch , send it back and get some more.

I use P21S and it lasts a lot longer that 3-5 days. Even with washing twice a week I see beading on the paint for at least three weeks. I can even notice the dust attraction of P21S after I stop noticing the beading action of the paint.

Heck I used pros p-39 sealant and that lasted me a little less than a month. I ordered some Klasse and I hope that I get a couple of months with a few coats.

I did some reading about Pro's sealants as I use the P-73. I noticed that it would go on the paint and bead like nuts for only a couple washes and then that effect went away. I wondered why and I talked to several people (two weren't from PRO) and they said sealants usually contain an oil that causes the water to bead and as soon as the oil is washed away the beading stops but the sealant is still on the paint.

The one thing I notice when I have P-73 on the surface is the way the surface leaves dark water spots. You'd have to use the product to know what I'm talking about. It is something I don't notice on clean paint so I kind of use that to judge when it isn't there anymore. I'd say I get a good 5 months out of P-73.

If you haven't used P-73 give it a try. It goes on easily and buffs off sooo easily! I luv it!

Is this the first time youve used S100?

Yea, I was thinking that too. S100 is pretty easy to use, but it takes a little experience before mastering it. Have you properly prepped (<- link) the car? P21S gives me at least 2 weeks of beading.

I've used S100 before, but a Carnauba goes on like a Carnauba, I put it on thin.

And I properly prepped the paint each time I reapplied it. I will go get some more, and see if I still have the problem.

This problem seems baffling to me too. Almost any wax (I imagine) should last longer than a few days.

As for Aurorav8's prep, it seemed alright judging soley on the steps he took. He's posted some of his methods before in a previous thread:

S100 durability issues...

Beats the heck out of me. :nixweiss Maybe check the air for corrosive fumes and crazy acid rain? I dunno.....

There is something very wrong with the 3-5 day duration!

I have now 4 weeks on my S100 and it is beading just fine with wonderful slickness.

I wonder if the Meg's #7 that is below it, is somehow causing a reaction to the S100?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm....:nixweiss

No swirl marks. I took care of the few very, very fine ones that were in the car with 3M SMR. Sprayed the car with alcahol/water mixture to eliminate any oils.

I take out all the swirls rather than trying to hide them.

It's raining out right now, so I may go take a few pics. It's wierd...I have NO slickness, and some of the top panels of the car are beading REALLY big beads, but some of the beads are tiny????

I did a 99 STS over the past weekend with the same combo I used on mine, and that is still as slick as can be, so I am eliminating the problem being the wax.

I'm honestly baffled.

Hmmmmmmmmm....I am stumped!!:nixweiss Did you make sure that you completely wiped off the Iso/water before the you applied the wax? I am sure you did. I really do not know!

We just had a down pour here too 1/2 hour ago, I just looked at my truck---it is beading like crazy!

3 weeks ago I waxed my car with S100 since then I washed it 5 times at a coin car wash after I wiped it off I used Eagle One Q D on it it rained today and it beads like crazy the car sits outside 24/7. I know this doesnt solve your problem Im just trying to tell you how it should be

Well, it seems that the general concensus around here is that the S100's durability is a problem only I am having.

Maybe my paint just doesn't like the S100.:nixweiss

In the category of "for what it's worth", I use P21 on my Porsche and it lasted me all winter. Granted I don't drive the car every day but it isn't a garage queen either. Out and about in the rain and it's still beading. I don't know if this makes a difference but I've been using P21 Bodywork Conditioning Shampoo for washing and then usually a quick wipe down with QD after the wash and in between full washes. I'd think you had a bad batch of product with the duration you're talking about.

I thought that it would have been a bad jar, but I detailed an STS last weekend, and it's still slick and beading like crazy...driven in the same road conditions, but not kept up half as good as mine.

I QD mine constantly, and the owner of the STS just washes his every couple weeks as needed.

Aurorav8 , your car must be allergic to s100 , you have all the symptoms the inconsitent beading and lack of slickness. ;)

Really though this is really weird I you figure it out , if you do I'd be very interested in knowing what the cause was.

I just read your last post and from what you say it sounds like the qd is killing the s100 , you may want to swtich to another , I have found that EF Clear Pearl works the best on s100.

Maybe it is the QD. I have never had a problem with Final Inspection causing problems with the durability of a carnauba though...but at this point, anything is possible.

Well, seeing as how the STS you used S100 on is not suffering the same condition, it seems like we can eliminate the local climate as the problem... :nixweiss
