I knew I shouldn't have tried it

This is my first post and I just had to vent. I'm not a detailer, I'm a guy who loves to clean his car. I have been using the P/C 7424 for about a year now on my 2006 Mazda MX-5.

I recently traded that car in for a black 05 Corvette. This vette is really nice with only 3 thousand miles. There was some slight surface cobwebbing and minor surface scratching so I sent a couple of private messages for advice and off I went with Menzerna 106FF .

I was very hesitant about polishing this car because of it's value. A Mazda is one thing but a vette is in another category. I thought maybe I should leave this to the pros. Well, I've done it now. I must have picked up a small stone on my pad and layed down some nice scratches on my right front fender. Lets see, how fast can I take the fun out of a new fifty thousand dollar car. I'd say between 5-6 on the 7424! Never Again.

Holy crap! What part of mass. are you from?

Can you feel the scratches with your finger nail? If not, you may be alright and be able to remove them with a rotary.

Always lay your machine down with the pad facing upward and check it for impurities.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

z06Meister, I cannot feel them with my fingernail. However, they do look a little whitish/gray which concerns me. I have a picture that I could show but I can't figure out how to upload it on this site. Any advice on that? Rydawg, I live 30 miles south of Boston.

I have never had anything like that happen to me ever.

Sorry to say it, but you where not being catious and watching what you where doing.

Could it be abrasives in the polish that didn't get broken down properly? If they can't be felt, and they look whitish/gray it sounds like the marring I had on my black Bonneville after using a bad clay bar.

Does it look like this:

Did you clean your tires before polishing?

The big scratch doesn't look to be circular. Maybe from the backing plate or the back of th PC.

That dosn't look like it was from a pebble on the pad.

It also looks like it will come out. But, I can't feel it or put a paint depth guage on it either.

Superbuick, thanks for inserting the image for me. I'm gonna try this again with a front view of the car and see if it works. I don't know how this scratch got there but it certainly wasn't there before I started polishing. Unless it was filled in with a glaze or something to hide it before I bought the car and my polishing revealed it. But again, I'm no expert.
