How-To's for a newbie??

As I mentioned in a previous post, I'll be purchasing a new vehicle this year (Black 2005 F150) and I'm wanting to learn a little something about the right way to keep it clean. I've probably waxed a car ONCE in my lifetime, so everything I've been reading here is brand new and quite frankly overwhelming. (The acronyms alone make my head spin!)

I guess what I'm looking for, and I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction, are some basic how-to's or tutorials about detailing. I want to learn about the concepts before I get into the hundreds of different details products available. (I can see you fellas are great for that stuff!) In other words, I see talk about washing, claying, polishing, sealing, waxing....etc. Do I need to do all these things? And more importantly WHY do I need to do all these things? Just a basic rundown - kinda like a "Detailing 101" class.

Sorry to sound so needy, but I really like to know everything I can about something before I get into it. This kind of info must have been published somewhere, right?

Thank you!

Check out the link in my signature. Its not the gospel of detailing by any means, but it has worked out well for me. If you are looking for a fairly direct 'how to' for detailing then that thread should help. I could probably write 20,000 words on each aspect of detailing, but that would be a book. Much like the Autopia book. :lol Anyway, hopefully it helps out a bit.

Perfect!

Both of your responses are exactly what I was looking for!

I can see it now....another very expensive, obsessive hobby on the horizon....

Thanks!
