Jared:I use Dawn.
My regimen goes something like this:
1) wash with dawn (after a dawn presak in bucket with hot water)
2) wash again with no soap, and downy ball with vinegar
3) tumble dry on the gentle setting for 15-20 minutes
4) let air dry the rest of the way.
Seems to be working for me.
EDIT: I generally segregate my loads too. Dingy/grungework, wax/polish, and drying and window cleaning all get washed apart from each other.
Isn't fabric softener a big no-no with MF towels?I don't have one, but I assumed when I read that JP was referring to this product:
The Downy Ball | Automatic Fabric Softener Dispenser | Downy Products
OK.I think he fills the ball with vinegar.
OK.
Jared:
Why not just pour the vinegar in the rinse water?
Interesting. If I put it in the downy ball, I don't have to hang out and wait for the washer to get to the rinse cycle. It just automatically opens somewhere during the end of the spin portion and then the vinegar is released at the rinse cycle.
Interesting.
Since I add my vinegar during the 2nd rinse, the downy ball wouldn't benefit me, but it sounds like it would be very handy if you are doing only one rinse,
Maybe I should try using the vinegar in the first rinse via the Downy Ball and then do my 2nd rinse with just water.
So.....I don't do a second rinse - I do a whole other wash cycle. That's when I add the downy ball full of vinegar. Caveman logic, you know.![]()
So.....
You do a regular wash cycle and when that cycle is done, instead of putting them in the dryer, you run them through another complete wash cycle.
Do you add soap to the second wash cycle or is it basically a heavy duty rinse.
Seems to be working good for me.
Charles just 1 time set the dryer to shut off before they are dry and use air fluff drying.Wow!
My MF towels don't receive anywhere near the care some of you give yours.
I wash them in hot water and don't separate or sort them in any way.
I don't use MF for grunge jobs or applying dressings and conditioners. They are for paint and glass use only for me. Windows, wash, drying, QD, Polish, Wax, Sealant, whatever the use, they are all washed at the same time/
For years, I washed them with whatever liquid laundry detergent my wife was using at the time. About a year ago, maybe two, I started using Micro-Restore and I think they come cleaner. I also started doing the second rinse with vinegar a year or so back. There again, I think they are softer after the vinegar rinse.
I dry them in the dryer on the medium heat setting and leave them until they are completely dry.
Seems to be working good for me.
Sounds like it would be worth trying.Charles just 1 time set the dryer to shut off before they are dry and use air fluff drying.
If you do this once you will never go back to completely drying them with heat.
I have tried both ways and mine come out much softer when they are air dried. :bigups
