How to Clean Microfiber Towels?

Re: how to clean mf towels

I use Dawn.

My regimen goes something like this:

1) wash with dawn (after a dawn presak in bucket with hot water)
2) wash again with no soap, and downy ball with vinegar
3) tumble dry on the gentle setting for 15-20 minutes
4) let air dry the rest of the way.

Seems to be working for me.

EDIT: I generally segregate my loads too. Dingy/grungework, wax/polish, and drying and window cleaning all get washed apart from each other.

Re: how to clean mf towels

ya see i live in an apt and dont have a washer and dryer so i dont wanan keep paying for it so i was thinking of geting dp polishing pad rejuivinater it says put it a 5gallon bucket let em sit and they come clean, thanks for the input

Re: how to clean mf towels

Didn't know you had no access to washer/dryer.

I'm not sure how I'd go about cleaning my MF without that. I guess by hand in a sink or something.

Pad rejuvenator is designed for foam pads - at least I would think. I suppose you could use it to clean MF towels....

Re: how to clean mf towels

I agree, I have the DP Pad Rejuvenator product and think that there are better ways to skin that cat -- the cleaning of your mf towels. For the towels with stains, keep a bottle of diluted APC nearby. Spray the stained area and agitate. You can also use your regular laundry detergent for this, assuming it doesn't contain bleach or fabric softener additives. (All or Purex are examples of relatively inexpensive yet effective detergents and both come in "Free" versions) Then take a measure of your laundry detergent or Dawn and put them in to soak. You will still need to agitate them and rinse them. IMO, you are going to have to break down and take them to the laundry room at some point. Maybe your answer is to get more towels so that you have enough on hand to make up a full washer load. That way you don't have to wash as often.

Jared:
What's a downy ball?

Re: how to clean mf towels

I think he fills the ball with vinegar.
OK.

Jared:
Why not just pour the vinegar in the rinse water?
Actually, I do a second rinse and add the vinegar only to the second rinse.

Back to the topic at hand.
I can't imagine cleaning MF towels without the use of a washing machine. (Or any of my other laundry for that matter.)

If I put it in the downy ball, I don't have to hang out and wait for the washer to get to the rinse cycle. It just automatically opens somewhere during the end of the spin portion and then the vinegar is released at the rinse cycle.

Interesting.
Since I add my vinegar during the 2nd rinse, the downy ball wouldn't benefit me, but it sounds like it would be very handy if you are doing only one rinse,
Maybe I should try using the vinegar in the first rinse via the Downy Ball and then do my 2nd rinse with just water.

I don't do a second rinse - I do a whole other wash cycle. That's when I add the downy ball full of vinegar. Caveman logic, you know. ;)

So.....
You do a regular wash cycle and when that cycle is done, instead of putting them in the dryer, you run them through another complete wash cycle.
Do you add soap to the second wash cycle or is it basically a heavy duty rinse.

Pretty much. Second (entire) cycle uses no soap at all. It gets the downy ball/vinegar.

Re: how to clean mf towels

I use 2 wash cycles with soap the washer automatically does a rinse after each wash but I wash 2 times with soap.
After that I do another rinse with vinegar and then do another rinse with just water.
Dry on low heat till just damp and then finish with air dry.

Re: how to clean mf towels

Wow!
My MF towels don't receive anywhere near the care some of you give yours.
I wash them in hot water and don't separate or sort them in any way.
I don't use MF for grunge jobs or applying dressings and conditioners. They are for paint and glass use only for me. Windows, wash, drying, QD, Polish, Wax, Sealant, whatever the use, they are all washed at the same time/
For years, I washed them with whatever liquid laundry detergent my wife was using at the time. About a year ago, maybe two, I started using Micro-Restore and I think they come cleaner. I also started doing the second rinse with vinegar a year or so back. There again, I think they are softer after the vinegar rinse.
I dry them in the dryer on the medium heat setting and leave them until they are completely dry.
Seems to be working good for me.

Charles just 1 time set the dryer to shut off before they are dry and use air fluff drying.
If you do this once you will never go back to completely drying them with heat.
I have tried both ways and mine come out much softer when they are air dried. :bigups

Sounds like it would be worth trying.
Simple and easy which I like. :D

So.....
If I remember, I'll try it.
If I remember, I'll post my results. :)
