How do you DESTRESS?!?!?!!?

My resolution this year is to learn how to properly manage my stress. Last year I got myself so stress out that I made monthly visits to my doctor and was placed on a ton of meds. I always felt like crap and just wanted to sleep. That really scared me because I am only 32, workout 3 times a week and eat pretty well. The stress at work came home with me and just caused chaos. I really need to learn how to get myself balanced between work and home. I've been thinking about reading some of the Dali Lama's books and take a class (T"ai Chi or Yoga). Do any of you take these classes or read any of Dali Lama's books? What do you do to destress? A vacation would be nice but not in the budget.

Well I also de-stress by detailing...It's nice just to be out in the garage for hours. It's a temporary fix but shopping also works for me :) haha

Find what you love, and make time for yourself to do it!!

Not to be nosy or be an @$$, but considering that you're still fairly young and stay fit and in shape, do you have a wife or a girlfriend? How's your sex life? (the hand doesn't count)

this is an easy one ...what makes you happy?

if it is the wife on my nerves I like to send some time wrenching or driving the car

if the car is the problem spend some time with the wife or one of my other cars

if work is really getting to me I will go shoot some skeet

but no matter what the problem a ride in a nice muscle car will clear

my head... you know 600+ Hp on 10" tire you really need to pay attention to

it or it will get ya

Excersize will do it. Detailing does it for me as well. When I detail I like to be alone and I just close the garage up and go to twon in my own little world.

Definetly exercise, in specific, some kind of strenous exercise to get the blood flowing. You will feel good afterwards.

Short term stress reliever = Punching bag (and by punching bag I mean annoying next door neighbor)

Detailing cars. (surprising how relaxing it is!!)

Long term stress reliever = Beach house in Fort Bragg California....aaaahhhhhhh

Watch T.V

Play video games (unless i lose)

Talk to friends or family (the very close ones)

Go on autopia

Wash my car (or bump somebody up on the schedule)

Take a walk

twopu: I agree with you im going to try manage my stress alot different this resolution.

Thanks for all the input guys.

BlackElantraGT- My wife has her moments, but for the most part things are great!!!

Working out is a big destressor for me and so is detailing (MY CAR). Unfortunately, most of my stress is work related which winds up come home with me. I need to learn to get myself in a mental balance at work. I was thinking about taking some classes in meditation, T'ai Chi, or Yoga with my wife. Anyone try any of these?

What is it about work that's stressing you? The deadline? The people you work with? Your boss? I think when you're spending 8 hrs + somewhere other than your home, you're bound to take that stress to/from home and work. The key is to limit how much it affects you because sooner or later you'll strain either a relationship at home, at work, or both.

It sounds like you already know some ways of destressing yourself. If your company provides medical benefits, you might look into seeing a message therapist or a chiropracter because it might be covered under your benefits for a small co-pay. That way, your body gets to relax and you'll feel like you're taking advantage of your company's benefits.

Or maybe take more road/weekend trips with the wife more often? That way you'll have something to look forward to at the end of a long week at work.

Kart Racing. Fast as all hell, relatively cheap, and extremely competitive.

Summer time: Formula Rotax 125cc

Winter time: Indoor Racing and Endurance Karting in various warm-climate areas of the country (racing in a 24 hour race next weekend)

1) Detailing

2) Play a couple rounds *meaningless* video games - *meaningless* is key...I don't play any team-based games when stressed because like everyone, I hate dying due to incompetent teammates :D

During special projects which needed to be delivered on time despite unreasonable deadlines, my team and I would make a habit of going to happy-hour every now and then just to enjoy life and each other's company outside of the tense work environment
