How do you clean your windows?

When I am doing a customers outter glass this is my process:

After washing the car with Dawn

I clay the glass at the same time as the paint.

IPA wipedown

Polish w/KAIO on a white CCS

Wipe down w/IG

Topped with whatever sealant or wax the paint gets.

I really like the Autoglym Glass Polish, it is amazing!! I polish the inside and outside glass and it almost looks like you don't have any glass in the car. Use a good MF, it goes on easy and comes off easy, no streaking, no hazing.

For hard to reach inside windshields I use the Glass Master with a good window cleaner, like CG, or GM Glass Cleaner.

I'm a little clueless on these short hands! whats IPA ...KAIO and IG?

Newspaper isn't something I use. Back in the day when this was first encourage the ink and paper were of different qualities than they are now. New newspapers use different ink and fiber types. It has the potential to smear even more and even scratch.

If you ask the window cleaning guys at work they will tell you they use a dish soap mixture with water using a window wand and then squeegee dry. The soap and water loosen and float the contaminates and the squeegee removes them. I've cleaned windows for 5 years now commercially and that's what I've been taught.

On a car I would use an aerosol glass cleaner to get rid of the contaminates wipe with a microfiber and then use a slightly damp with water, clean microfiber cloth and then inspect. It may take several attempts because all the off gassing from the plastics, leather, fabrics and carpeting in a newer vehicle, plus all the stuff we put on them. Leave the windows cracked on a new car if you are able to.

Hope this helps.

Sprayway aerosal window cleaner and a WW microfiber window towel. Never any troubles or streaks. A couple times a year I wowo them with Klasse AIO followed by Klasse SG. Keeps em nice and slick. :xyxthumbs

Soapy water, Windex, or Stoners IG. All work well depending on the surface contaminant? For the grimey work trucks I usually see, its soapy water clean, followed by Stoners IG for a clean streak free window.

Sorry! :doh

IPA = isopropyl alcohol

KAIO = Klasse All in One

IG = Stoner's Invisible Glass

+1 on claying (for outer windows). It's shouldnt take too long as glass is naturally smooth. Next time it will be easier to clean.

Interior I use a mf appl to scrub and a small ww to dry.

A question about claying tinted windows. I clayed my car this weekend and clayed the front windsheild, but wasn't sure if I should clay the tinted windows. I'm guessing claying the tinted windows would be fine with enough lube, but I wanted to check with you guys before I did it.

Thanks,

I don't think anyone is claying the inside of their windows. :har:

UPDATE: So, in my quest to figure out how to clean windows the best I'm pretty confident now with cleaning windows. The answer is Stoners Invisible Glass as many have mentioned on here. I ran across this product at a WalMart at all places and knew I needed to try this stuff out. So with using brand new micro fiber towels, I used one to wipe on and the other to dry. I did all the windows inside and out on a newer expedition this weekend and the results were amazing, I did not see any trace of smearing or streaks.

Some words of advice when using this product or even others - If you experience smears and streaking consider either grabbing fresh towels or you may need to go over the window more than once.

:) Good job. I've used SIG for 10 years and depending on the condition of the window I've still managed to get streaks. Go figure. Detailing is a funny thing.

If you mean aftermarket tint, as in "film", I wouldn't clay it. While claying is supposed to be nonabrasive with sufficient lube (and mild clays), I wouldn't want to gamble my tint on that by a long shot.

If you mean factory/oem "privacy glass" then sure, go ahead and clay it. That tint is "in the glass" and you're no more likely to hurt it than "normal" glass.

Thanks! The tint was put on by the dealer so I'm guessing it's factory / oem, so I guess I'm okay. I'll try a small area and see if anything happens.

Any tint that's applied outside the factory (eg Dealer) is not OEM/Factory tint, it's aftermarket film that's on the inside of the window.

I would NOT clay that film. There's nothing wrong with aftermarket tint, in fact I couldn't live without it here in TX.. but I wouldn't clay it.

Thanks for the clarification Mindflux. I'll just read up on this thread and find some good products, keeping the clay away from the windows (except the windshield).

Where can one get this Stoner's glass cleaner

Hit up Wally World, that is where I purchased mine. So far it's been an amazing product. However, the product is only part of the result making, it's an application issue as well. You need to also take into consideration the temps outside and how dirty the glass is. Also like I've said before, make sure you use clean towels, it will help alot.
