How do you clean your windows?

I highly recommend the steamer but the squeege is useless. I just spray steam on the windows and wipe them with a green MF glass towel. Works fine.

Ya squeege's do seem to really suck...I LOVE them for flat windows...but with the curve of a windshield its really very hard to get it across smoothly without leaving marks or drips or whatever...

I got the little windshield wonder thingy from wal-mart...the handle and all that is great...its just the bonnetts arnt that hot....kinda get really wet really fast so you either have to have a ton of them to switch out quite often or you just end up sayin screw it and grab a MF towel and do it by hand :LOLOL

I do wonder if the stoners one is any better..heard good things about it but still...the small bonnet makes me a little :nervous2:

A high end spray wax or quick detailer repels water & dust. Plus it always goes on streak free.

HAHA, i swear ive thought about waxing my damn windows so many times...heard one person say it makes the wipers kinda skip over the glass thou...not sure how true that is..

Ive seen some things about window polish lately...kinda wondered the benifit of it and what the difference with it would be compaired to just a regular spray detailer like you just suggested...sometimes I think things get to be a little over kill with products when something that might not be listed as being able to be used for one thing (like spray detail on windows) really would work just fine with no bad effects

Dont get me wrong I know that there are some things that are best just left for what they are said for...but I see light restoration kits that come with M105 and 205 that you put on plastic as a polish even thou its a "paint polish" but works great...why not a lil detail spray on the windows :)

i hated it when i couldnt get windows 100% clean, so i had to research it. to put it short windows need a certain cleaning agent like a,b, or c. unfortunaly cleaners can only hold 2 agents together like a and b, or b and c. so something is always left out. u now have 2 choices either buy an assortment of cleaners and use 2 or more or use a main cleaner and if it doesnt work polish the glass, then u know its right. rightlook has a chrome/glass cleaner that is outstanding and is a must have for windows. another option is if u have a steamer u wont need the polish

On after marked tinted windows I use Plexus buffed off with a MF towel. Does an absolutely amazing job.

I use sprayaway foaming glass cleaner! Over 30 years I have used this product. I don't fix it if it aint broken. White and blue can, same as it was in 1965, when my Dad had it in our garage as a kid.

I'm no pro and I have always had trouble with glass, but I found a method that works for me. Its tough because we have hard water and it is a pain sometimes. I found I just hit the windows with clay, gets rid of anything on the window. It takes a little longer but its worth it to get it right the first time. Then I hit it with stoners invisible glass and a good microfiber. Make sure it isn't one that has a lot of lint.

I used to mix corn starch with water. I would NOT use this on windows with aftermarket tint!

I stopped using this so often once I found EO 20/20 glass cleaner. If you keep the glass fairly clean to start with, a little distilled water in a sprayer and a soft MF will work just fine.

Except it's called "Sprayway", no A in it. :waxing: But to be fair when I used it I didn't see any difference from Stoner's IG. Except the perfume smell.

ah, on the inside i use stoner's IG and MF, but i might only have to do that once every year or so.

I'd never used clay on windows before last night. I did a little experiement: I cleaned my SL's windows as I normally do with some DP window cleaner and microfiber towels. THEN I got out some Griot's Garage window cleaning clay that I just bought and hit'em again. I was suprized to see that the clay picked up quite a bit off the glass. After claying, I repeated the window cleaning routine. It really seemed to make a difference.

I repeated the same process on the Mini Cooper and also saw a big difference - especially on the glass sunroof. :)

Here is an update: Personally, I haven't tried any of the higher end products that have been mentioned so that has yet to be determined by me if they work better. I think it really comes down to if you keep this clean on a regular schedule things like glass cleaning becomes alot easier. I think a key is determining how dirty the glass is to start. I think a great indication is inspected the interior itself, how dusty is the dash, the floors etc. Odds are depending on how dirty this is, probably could tell you how dirty the windows are. The key is to break down all the dirt and oils first and get them off the glass. Initially you will probably need to spray a liberal amount to achieve this, then repeat but each time use perhaps less then you first did (all you are trying to do is not leave spotting). Because the glass may be really dirty it may take a few passes to achieve a clear look. The other IMPORTANT thing to know is with dirty glass you need to use a fresh clean towel or atleast clean spot on the towel otherwise you will just smear the oils and dirt back on. My suggestion is to use newspaper, I used this method last weekend and it worked very well, it's cheap and no need to waste a buttload of MF towels on glass alone.

Also, I used an IPA solution 1:1 with water it worked very well, but it doesn't have enough to break down heavily dirty windows, you will want to find some sort of window cleaner with an actual soap additive to help break down. It works well for most light dirty windows.

+1 on claying (for outer windows). It's shouldnt take too long as glass is naturally smooth. Next time it will be easier to clean.

Interior I use a mf appl to scrub and a small ww to dry.

Regarding claying exterior windows, would you do so on the front windshield? I'm afraid clay particles might get filled in on micro-pitted front windshields, reducing clarity.

I would think if you use enough lube (be it detail spray or water or whatever..) that it should keep the clay from coming apart on you.

The first time i clayed i didnt use enough spray and it started dragging and leaving marks and small bits of clay...now i'd rather use a little too much that too little....especially if you're just using some sort of inexpensive stuff like Mothers or something along that line...works fine for claying for me :)
