Accumulator said:It's not just the thread pitch that's crappy on the cheap plastic fittings either. The shutoffs usually fail at the swivel point, literally breaking in half. That's when they launch the brass quick disconnect and anything else "downstream" into the car. Yeah, it *is* a very real and significant risk. I replace mine while they're still perfectly good. Better safe than sorry and as Bill D. pointed out, they're cheap.
For anything except the shutoffs and the "female quick disconnect as wheelwell nozzle", stick with brass.
