GOT PREP?
I got a call the other day from a local "speed shop" to do some detailing. One car is a 2004 Honda s2000 that needed light polishing and a bit of interior cleaning. This car was really easy to work on, very clean lines.

I used Hi-Temp LC with the PC and polishing pad, then topped with Meguiars #20. The interior was just vacuumed and spot treated with an APC.

Sorry no befores.....I had to wash in the rain and then bring it inside. :nono


This is the only full shot that I have of it. I am sorry for the poor quality. I only know how to take pictures in auto!!! :brick

The Cadillac CTS-V was beautiful, EXCEPT the dealer used a high speed polisher on it. Why? I have no idea, the guy was a bit upset and just wanted them to go away. This guy is a car collector and has quite a stable, this car, a yellow viper(which I hope to be buffing soon), a porsche, a mini cooper S, a ford F250, and a few others that I can't remember.

CTS-V Looks so clean the wheels wow great work as always!. What did you use on the wheels.? My friend is supposed to bring me an acid based cleaner tonight he works at a dealer going to do my wheels perfect tommorow there so caked with brake dust.

What did you dress the tires with on both. ?

Now, about the before of the CTS-V. How could a dealer deliver a car in that condition? That is unbelievable! Over the years, I must have purchased about 18 new vehicles and none of them were close to that bad. Was the car actually delivered in that condition or did someone run it through a brush car wash? Like about five times.
Seriously, someone needs to point out the condition of the cars being delivered to someone in upper management at that dealership. The owner may not realize what kind of product he is putting out. Even our used car lots have better looking detail jobs than that.

Charles, I have no idea how they could deliver that car in such condition. I know that it is common in Memphis to apply wax by hand and then remove it with a rotary and a twisted wool cutting pad. It is common belief here that this method will "shine it up." I would imagine that trying to make a used car salesman see piant the way that we do would be nearly impossible. The owners of the past two cars that I have done in this condition were both told "there is nothing that we can do." Perhaps I should go by the dealership on Monday and tell him about the condition of the cars that he is delivering. I may even tell him that for 75K a year I will head up the detail shop. :) All you would have to do is get these guys some good mitts and towels, take away the rotaries, and pay closer attention to what is going on.

Frozen, I used the EO protectant lotion that I got at big lots on the tires. I really like this stuff, I am going back to buy a few more bottles next week($1.99). On the wheels I used nothing but car wash soap and an EZ detail brush(which finally broke today BTW :boohoo )


BTW, the CTS-V has the Z06 motor with 400 horses. He has the 6 speed manual, man I would love to get some time behind the wheel of this car!!!!
 
Both cars look awesome, it's amazing how badly dealers can swirl up their cars in such little time.

What you saw on the hood of the CTS V is pretty common from dealerships. They send the cars through automatic crushers to wash them and prep before customer delivery. I have seen it many times-wife used to work for a dealership (Caddie in fact). I used to hand wash my car there all the time while porters would do the craziest things to clean cars externally. I have seen porters use wheel brushes to "clean" an entire car with a bucket of soap used to clean wheels. Yes, everything you imagine is true-grit, grime, oil & an abrasive solvent being applied to a brand new car with a stiff plastic brush. Then the car went through an auto car wash with all the bells & whistles of spinning brushes and heavey felt drapes. I said something to the owner-he didn't even care. $75k Escalade in metallic blue went out the door shortly after. Felt bad for the proud new owner of the Escalade. Someone in this thread said it best-trying to get a used car salesman to understand paint care is a futile exercise in education. Dealerships hire out most of their detail work and upchare the customer for it. Example-my wife's front bumpt started to show clear coat peeling on a black paint job(30k miles and 2 years old). I mentioned it when it was in for the 2 time a recall was being fixed becasue it should be covered under warranty. He siad they would tack care of it-guess what. He wanted to charge me $75 for a detail guy who took a high speed cutting pad to the bumper and just buffed off the clear coat versus getting the bumper redone. Needless to say i didn't pay the $75 and I bitched to high heaven-details still out as to what they are willing to do to fix the problem. Not saying I am an expert nor am I bagging dealerships-the one thing I do know is that they want to send a clean car out the door and are more concerned with how shiney the tires are and that there aren't dirt patches on the paint upon delivery; they aren't concerned about the quality of the care thus affecting the paints appearance. Maybe they are right-your car is going to be abused no matter what with the bombardment of road debris, airborne contaminents, acid rain etc so who cars about swirl marks and webs-just keep it clean. Sorry, but I don't buy that-we may be mad about our desire for the perfect paintjob which they will never understand-but instead they should let the customer determine how the paint should be treated-let the customer ruin the car not the guy who sold it!

It is a really unique poroduct IMO, especially in terms of application and effectiveness. If you are trying to compare to them in terms of abrasiveness I would say that is close to Hi-temp LC or PB SSR2 it will leave a darker finish though (I think some people see that as a bad thing, depends on the car for me).

I buy #80 by the gallon and NEVER go to a detail without it.

Yeah, lately #80 has been my go to polish. I found it works really well and leaves a nice finish ready for your LSP. (if the detail is a 2 step) Beautiful work by the way, gotta love those carpet lines on the floor mats.

General Lee, I have been using #80 for a while now and when doing a two step on a car, it is IMO hard to beat. I love it and never leave the houdse without it!! In other words, I totally agree. :)

Amazing work though...Truly hell they put those finishes through at the dealers.

How do you feel about #20? What colors is it best on?

I like the V its not my favorite by any means but its nice but the wheels on the pictures on cadillac.com look way bigger then whats on the car in a way ruining it. The c55 looks so much better in my opinion. But CTS-V is definently sexy and fast....

I know what you mean, I didn't charge....... much ;) The interior is very nice as well.

I like #20, it is durable as hell, easy to work with and looks great on just about anything. I typically use it when customer is willing to sacrifice a tiny bit of looks for durability. I personally think that it looks best on light colored cars, but I have used it on black with good results. As you know it is all prep anyway.
