HELp! Paint problem on my new s2000

Hey Guys,

Diamond Kote is marketed as a paint preserver. The company claims that it actually penetrates the paint and makes it more hard and durable. This is suppose to prevent stone chips and maintain a lifelong shine( hahahahaha!!) It is only available to dealers and not the consumer. It comes in a @2oz bottle that is enough to do the whole car. It is very very expensive. It costs around $120 Can. for this small bottle.
Man, Diamond Kote is still around? I remember my father getting this on his '82 Accord. In fact, I think we still have a bottle of its carwash lying around here somewhere....

I don't know what this stuff is exactly, but shouldn't any polish or pre-wax cleaner get rid of it? I mean, it's probably just a really durable polymer of some kind, right? :nixweiss

Prep for putting stuff like this on can vary. Some of these things clean it for you, others require them to be applied to perfectly clean paint. Generally the opinion here is that these paint protection packages are big ripoffs and you would be better off taking care of the car yourself using other products - there are lots to choose from! Once the paint is fixed, you just have to keep it looking good.

Well, glad to hear that it's gonna be taken care of for you.

When I first started reading your post and saw that pic, I wanted to suggest that you go in there, find the dude with the rotary, and blow his head right off his shoulders with a 12 gauge. Such a beautiful car. :D

Hey Brian!

I am surprised that it is still around as well!! I always found that the shine did not last that well; which is why they also give you a quart size bottle of restorer to periodically bring back the shine. Over the years they fortified it with Teflon(we all know that means squat!!) and have added a fabric protection formula to their line up as well. Honestly, I do not like any of their stuff!!

As for removing it, I am not so sure. At one point, I was told that you can not even wax over the stuff!!! I did, and had zero problems after doing so!! I actually found that the shine increased substantially after using something like Meg's #20. But, removing it may be another story as it is supposed to penetrate the paint; to what depth, I do not know! I sure would try with something like DACP!!!

Hey Brian, I may be heading to Van this summer for a holiday; don't you owe me a Kokanee or something??:p

I probably owe lots of people a drink and just live in fear of them actually collecting someday. :p

Yeah I read about the Teflon thing when I looked at their website later on: http://www.diamondkote.com/dkgold_paintpro.htm

From their description, I'd say it sounds no different than any other polymer sealant that we've heard of. Just my opinion, but I bet Diamond Kote came out with this stuff when it was the hot, new, "high tech" thing and has been riding on that ever since - just like a lot of the other old polymer formulas we still use. :nixweiss

Don't worry, you are safe!! :o

As for the original poster, I do not know who is the best in Vancouver. You may want to contact one of the custom car stores and ask them who does their work for car shows.:nixweiss
