Hello from Delaware... '99 Porsche

I've been lurking a while; reading, searching, learning. I finally invested in a Random Orbital and went to work this past weekend on my '99 Porsche 911 (996) Cabriolet.

A few newbie thoughts:

1. Machine polishing makes your arms tired. I thought the machines were going to take the work out of it! :errf:

2. The paint looks *much* better. And I only did a one-stage polish. I'm planning on following up with a more agressive 2-stage polish later on.

3. This was the biggest learning for me: Smooth, shiny paint REALLY HIGHLIGHTS THE OTHER FLAWS in my paint, such as stone chips. Turns out polishing is just the start.

4. My wife thinks I'm crazy.

Anyway, Thanks for all I've read. Hoping to jump in with both feet going forward.

Welcome with a dynamic first post!

+1 on all your findings, except the fact that I dont have a wife, but the gf thinks just the same. :)

Welcome to Autopia! Thanks for sharing too!

One thing I often tell my customers prior to polishing is that deep scratches and stone chips are a lot like finding a needle in a haystack. If you take away all the hay, your simply left with the needle all by itself in plain view. ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome. Planning on trying the Dr. "Color Chip" repair kit on my hood and bumper dings. Hopefully that helps. Not ready to tackle painting just yet.
