Heavy swirls+scrathces=heavy buffing/wet sanding for a black Mustang GT **56K--NO WAY

GOT PREP?
Detailed this Mustang yesterday; it was in need of some TLC. The paint was dull, dirty, and had scratches/swirls all over it. The engine looked like an explosion of mud had occurred inside the bay.



The paint was so contaminated that while claying it, the water turned brown.



Process was:



Wash



Clay with Meguiars aggressive body shop clay



Wash again—I typically don’t have to do this, but the paint was foul.



I then soaked a few sheets of Meguiars unigrit 2000 grade sanding papers in a solution of Meguiars #00 hi-tech wash. I allowed it to soak for about 30 minutes.



After the papers had soaked I walked around the car and wet sanded the deeper scratches. I misted a bit of Meguiars #34 on the paint for extra lubrication before sanding with the #00 solution as lube.



Buff with Hi-Temp Extreme cut via rotary polisher and twisted wool pad @2000 RPM’s



Apply Meguiars #83 via rotary polisher @1200 RPM’s with a foam polishing pad



Apply #80 Meguiars speed glaze with the PC @ speed 5



Apply two thin coats of Poorboy’s EX-P sealant



Applied one coat of Optimum polymer technologies wax



Glass cleaned with NXT glass cleaner



Tires dressed with Meguiars all-season dressing



The paint returned to about 85-90% perfect, there are still some defects that could not be safely removed.

For the engine, I degreased, the pressure washed, scrubbed with brushes, rinsed again, then dressed with Eagle One Pro water based dressing cut 1:1. I also used Meguiars NXT metal polish on the intake:

HOLY SHNIKEYS!!!!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? That is one FANTASTIC, CRAZY DETAIL! You probably added $3000 to the value of that car!! :2thumbs:

The front end is toast!! On the passenger fender, it was repainted, they added red flake to it for some reason--guess they thought it looked better?? :) The rest of the car is just "regular" black.

Sick work Joe :woot: Even in the afters I can see why you mentioned 85% perfect. But still, awesome turn around. I really like the engine shots. The intake is gleaming and really makes the photos!

You really like that OCW! Ever consider any of the other dedicated spray sealants to top your LSP since you usually seem to shy away from carnaubas? Just curious.

that thing above the wetsand marks, that looks like cracking, what exactly is that called?

im a noob to detailing and i have one of those on top of my roof, is that clear coat failure?
 
That really came out great!!!



I hope you got $500 for that job, as the value of the car was increased much more then that.
