HD Poxy / Blackfire Wet diamond comparison

Thanks to those who provided useful comments, looks like both products are similar. Certainly didn't mean to start any arguments here.

I have used BFWD in the past and while it was a fantastic product, I was curious to what others had to say about Poxy in a comparison, as it is roughly half the price.

As I've stated durability is one concern as BFWD is pushed to the limit IMO to last our long winters up here in Minnesota. If anyone has any other thoughts on a good Winter wax or sealant that may be better suited durability wise, I'm all ears.

You can always look into FK1000P or Collinite 476 as paste wax options. I haven't tried POXY but I have only seen good reviews about it. Same with BFWD [I used it and love it, but can't compare it].

For those who have used both. How would you rate each for the following:

- Gloss

- slickness

- Ease of use

- Weather sensitivity

and most important to me:

- Durability

POXY is a very nice product. I think of it as a hybrid: carnauba appearance + sealant durability

It's super-easy to work with and a thoroughly modern product. I have not tried any BF products in recent history.

Here's a write-up I did on the POXY:

As Luke mentions above, FK1000p (two coats) is a tried 'n' true solution in terms of longevity and a great appearance. Problem is, you'll come to realize there are many excellent options for folks to pick from.

[quote name='hotrod66paul'] Of the forums you have listed , there isn't one that either a member or owner doesn't have a stake in or rep a detailing product line.

Isn't that true of all detailing forums, not just what he listed. The exception might be live2detail. There are members that have a stake in a product, but not the owner. IMO this is truly an unbiased forum. They don't even allow sponsors to support the site.

So in your opinion, 2 coats of FK1000 is a no-brainer for 6 months protection even through normal winter conditions?

Yes, assuming you've done a solid job preparing the surface.

How old were you when you joined Autopia (2001) In last year thread you look to be around 16-18 making you around 4-5 when you joined.:chuckle:

As I said forum member or owner. CeeDog is a member and also a distributor for CarPro. I think if you check most of the forums they have a poster or two that have a connection with a company or work directly for a company or receive product for positive reviews. This is just the way corporate America works. This is not necessarily a bad thing as long as the members have knowledge of this up front. Many posters on the major detailing forums that promote products are completely honest and trustworthy including moderators etc. Sadly there are a few in what I would call the minority that are shills for certain producers. IMO these guys are very easy to spot.

One thing I still stand by is the statement 3D pretty well lets the mods run this site in a professional manner and speak poorly of any product a member doesn't think holds up to Autopian standards.

Read my post again. I agreed about members and owners having a connection with a product with the exception of Carlos (live2detail) and not Corey, who is a member.

HD Poxy is the **** and there's no reason to spend twice money on BFWD, it ain't lasting twice as long.

Just get a different bottle and be careful how you store it.

I will say this, absolutly enjoy poxy but i had to filter my way through to figure out who is full of it and who can remain unbiased.hats off to david fermani

Trying to get this one back on track here:

I've used both quite a bit. I really like both, both have their advantages.

Poxy:

-easier to apply, less finicky (not that BFWD is bad).

-super concentrated, a little goes a very long way

-better looks until the first wash or significant rain (more depth and gloss, also wetter).

BFWD:

-intense water beading

-long term slickness

-longer lasting inital looks, gets better as it cures, usually takes 24 hours for the magic to happen

Both are really easy to apply, a little goes a long way, just all around a pleasure to use. For me, the choice is do I want eye popping looks or good looking for longer.

MHO is Blackfire and Poxy are very similar both easy to use very good durablility and look great. Why not take it up a notch to NitroSeal? NitroSeal is either poxy or Blackfire on steriods. The only other products I have tried that look as good as Nirtoseal is either Wolfs Hard Body or Prima Hydroseal.

Blackfire has nothing that can touch Nitroseal JMO . Actually Blackfire was one of the first sealants I used.

I think a lot depends on prep, condition of paint, if it's a car that stays outside 7x24, age of car and where in the world you are located. A friend of mine asked me about Nitro and I gave him a positive review and went over how to use it with him. Now, this is a guy that started detailing before I did and had showed me tricks of the trade in the past, so yeah, no noob. He used it on a Vette and it looked great, but 2 -3 weeks later when he did a maintenance wash, he called me and said that there was no sign of anything on it. Ok, had to be pilot error but maybe a bad batch? I told him to contact 3D and see - never heard back about that as he got married and moved, but my point is to take ancedotal evidence as just that. I've had Zaino turn out crappy and it's widely regarded as a top LSP, was it me or a combo of other factors? Who knows, the guys here that do this for a living have it down to a science and 99% of the time - product X performs just like it is supposed to. But every now and then, Mr Murphy visits and s#%@# happens, even to the best.

That said, I try to use products that are as fool proof and work in the worst cases most of the time, I have no time for finicky stuff, its got to work in 40 degrees up to 105 with humidity out the Y-zoo, I have to depend on it to work right the first time and not cause issues later.

Find something that works for you and stick with it!

Autopia is about as unbiased as you can get without some paid shill jumping in to push their product.

For example, in this thread where someone asks for a comparison of Poxy vs Zaino VS Duragloss, their head shill Angelo jumps in just to push Blackfire and you follow his lead to help move the attention away from the conversation about a product their forum doesn't sell. Notice that nobody even asked for an opinion about Blackfire?

Zaino z2 pro, HD Poxy or Duragloss 601+105 - Autopia Forums - Auto Detailing & Car Care Discussion Forum

I don't see anything really biased or wrong with that thread. Someone just said they prefer to use BFWD on black.

I did see where Tood Helme, who probably is as BlackFire as they come said this:

Definition : A shill, plant, or stooge is a person who publicly helps a person or organization without disclosing that he has a close relationship with that person or organization. Shill typically refers to someone who purposely gives onlookers the impression that he is an enthusiastic independent customer of a seller (or marketer of ideas) for whom he is secretly working.

Seems to me that the word "shill" is misused pretty often here by a few people. We all know who works for what detailing company so when they make comments they are not acting as a shill. If you don't like what they have to say just ignore it, but it sure gets tiresome reading posts about shills when we all know they are promoting their company products and in most cases honestly.

Please tell us who is full of it?

Never used Blackfire but I have used Poxy and been really pleased with its carnauba look. Durability is good too. Only real problem is it doesn't tolerate storage at high temperatures. I keep everything in my trunk and Poxy separated and wouldn't go back together so I have remember to bring it inside.
