HD Poxy / Blackfire Wet diamond comparison

For those who have used both. How would you rate each for the following:

- Gloss

- slickness

- Ease of use

- Weather sensitivity

and most important to me:

- Durability

Thanks

This could have many different answering depending on whom you ask so I'll throw out what I think for me..

Gloss - once corrected, you won't really see a difference

Slickness- Blackfire

Ease of use - Blackfire

Weather Sensitivity- either

Durability- very similar..

And very importantly........COST! POXY is almost 1/2 the price of Blackfire. Mainly because you are buying from the manufacturer, not a blender.

Application for me is very similar where 8-12 drops will do a complete car no problem. POXY spreads further once it's primed into the pad. It's also safe for fresh paint refinishes.

I have been using black fire for a few years and it is amazingly easy to use, no dusting if used properly (read thin) and so little goes a long way. It got me through a few rough winters I have tried alot of sealants and products and I choose to use Blackfire as my sealant of choice. I left power lock to use BF. I also use Opticoat, EXO and plan on trying carpro c quartz soon. But Blackfire is my sealant of choice for looks, feel, durability and ease of use. The price is not bad considering what you get.

I have not used 3D anything so I cannot compare.

To get an honest opinion you are going to have to go to another forum. This one is 3D fanboys most likely because 3d owns the forum? Autopia car care, detailing bliss or love2detail.

Let the flaming begin.................

How does Poxy play together with polishes?

I have some Megs 205 and Ultimate Polish, would Poxy be fine over the top of either, especially UP, as it has a lot of polishing oils in it?

[quote name='JSFM35X'] Autopia car care, detailing bliss or love2detail.

One out of three...it's called Autopia Forums and Live2detail.

Your suggestion makes me laugh. Sending people to AG (autopia car care) to ask for an honest answer about POXY and blackfire? Talk about bias. This is the ONLY forum where you will get an honest answer. We even tolerate shills working for the other company posting here negative BS about 3D and HD.

Here you go, replying to this thread with a bias opinion, since you like blackfire and never used POXY. The OP asked for replies from members who used both. Did you not read that?

What you should do is: go to the AG forums and tell them to come to the real autopia forum (the original) where they will receive UN BIAS answers.

I can guarantee you that your exact post would be deleted in seconds and your a$$ banned if your post was in favor of POXY and telling those members to come here to get an honest answer.

PS: you can apply poxy as thick as you want, it will never dust.
:D

These pictures are for you, not to influence the OP - OP, I apologize for my OT. Sorry. In some cases, I just feel that I need to call out replies like these. I am sure you would be very happy with either offerings. I only use HD POXY, so I can't really help you make a decision.

Since POXY is a hybrid product, it will most likely be ok, but because of all those oils in the 2 polishes, you should do an alcohol wipe or use a paint cleaner, if durability is a concern.

Not much better them - looks are very similar, and so was durability in a side-by-side test I did. I'd give BFWD the slight edge in slickness. Both are easy to apply and remove, but I did have some strange carnauba-sweating-like hazing with Poxy on one panel (and yes, I did apply it thinly), so I'll also give the usability edge to Blackfire.

Your work posted here all looks excellent. If you don't like where I suggested try live2detai

They don't sell anything there.

I am only a fan of BF because it works for me. I don't get dusting with BFWD at all as long as I apply thin. I don't sell BF or shill for them. I use a lot of products currently on my own cars. I try products based on what I see on various boards that people are using and liking. If you stick around a while you get to see who is who. I am not a professional but a serious amateur. I have no axe to grind. I have used and liked p21s100%, Poorboys EXP, 845IW, ultima paint guard plus, power lock, BFWD, Opticoat, and have a can of EXO I am going to try on my DD. These products are in order I moved in while looking for the best product for my cars. I left out a few I did not like but perhaps early in my learning curve it was me not the product that failed.

Since you have an open mind you should try POXY...;)

Old what's his name once said, find something you like and use it. I have gone through a dozen sealants and some were better than others, but I wouldn't call any bad. You could always do a test on your car with all the ones you have. You may find that some factors weigh more than others after a few months. At least its a fairy cheap hobby, unlike most everything else. Buy,try, post your findings, its what makes a good forum thread.

I really do try a lot. I am honestly turned off to the 3D line because of what I percieve a all the pushing. I really don't know much about the 3D HD line. I do however know that I prefer sealants to wax and it think the newest 3D products from the post I have read is a sealant A with wax a part B. I never did the midnight sun over BFWD either. I like the sharp reflection and durability of sealants. They also self clean better IMHO.

Other than for a garage queen, I am trying to switch to coatings for the daily drivers. I have a coating, Opticoat on 1 vehicle and it is about 1 month in and it really stays cleaner. It sits out 24/7. I have purchased EXO and will try that shortly on a different car.

I like washing my car but hate the decon, polishing steps. It is just too time consuming. If I can extend out the time between tear down and rebuilding, I would be thrilled. I think coatings will get me there. Again, this is my detailing philosophy based on my limited experience over 4 years as a serious amateur. It works for me and I am getting better every day.

I am looking for the best product in each category (ex: wheels, APC, polish and lsp) for my cars. I am determining whats best using my own experience. I am not a shill for any company and I dont owe anything to any distributor or manufacturer. My thoughts and opinions are there for anyone thinking I can help and for those that disagree- that is you right and I respect it. I am always polite in expressing my opinions and not a derogatory person or poster. Guys, this is a hobby of mine and I am here to learn, have fun and if I can help others just like guys did when I was new.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Everything sounded nice in your last post until you said-

I frequent this and various other detailing forums and it never fails to amaze me when a poster ask about a certain product only to have some members knock a certain brand that they have never tried. Reviews should be based on actual experience and not what one has heard on a forum that doesn't even carry said product.Because of this I have been spending more and more time on this forum. I have asked about and discussed products that are from 3D's competitors without dozens of as you call em , fan boys jumping in.Three D doesn't ban members that give a negative review of their product or post about a competitors product. Of the forums you have listed , there isn't one that either a member or owner doesn't have a stake in or rep a detailing product line. So if from your own experience as you have stated, you want to find the best product in every category I find it hard to rule out 3D without even a trail.

If you would like a sample of UNO,Speed or Polish, I would be willing to send you a small sample. So now I will push away from my keyboard and get off of my soapbox.

I would be glad to provide you with a sample of HD POXY if you are willing to give your honest/unbiased opinion of it compared to BFWD with us? Autopia.org is founded on the principals of sharing unbiased information. Yes, the forum is owned by the same individual that owns 3D Car Care, but tend to think of them as just another board sponsor like Detailers Domain, Metropolitan Detail, Buff Daddy and soon to be many others. Their content is usually kept in their respective sub-forums. If this was a biased forum, we would certainly not have an incredible group of posters contributing here along with all these great sponsors. I certainly hope you can take a little more time to see how we are indeed different then all the other forums!

I do not intend to flame another product or person, but just give subjective advise based on my own experiences all while giving some input on the observation to the conversation that was linked. I can tell you that from using both Blackfire and HD POXY with Todd Helme (the front man for the Blackfire line and my very close friend) for now well over 2 years on literally dozens of paint finishes, we are both blown away by both products and really enjoy using both. This alone should speak volumes about these products, especially when he openly claims:

I have been very pleased with all of the 3D products I have used. The HD Polish is very nice, and finishes great. Speed is another great product. I have no complaints.

David,

That is a very nice offer and perhaps I will take you up on it in the future. Right now I have a can of EXO in the garage that I am collecting the information on to ensure I apply it correctly. I ordered it planning on using IPA to wipe the car down with but found I needed a product called Wurth prep solve. I appreciate your willingness to "show me" and thank you for the offer. I assume you read what I wrote, so HD proxy is straight sealant? I currently just applied the BFWD to the car I used sealant on and I am concentrating on getting coatings on my other cars before the winter.

Todd is a respectable guy in this industry from what I know and have seen on the forums. His talents as a detailer are evident from some of his epic posts. I have followed him since TID. Autopia.org was a place I got my start when I was searching for a way to get swirls out of a brand new 2008 Infiniti. It is the place i also found UPGP. After the change at Autopia I just felt other places on line fit me better. I actually came back recently because I had googled EXO looking for information pre purchase and added it to my list of stops. I spend alot of time reading up on detailing hoping to learn.

Where in Florida are you located.

Again, thanks for your generous offer and the time you took to respond.

Again, thanks for your reply and my offer stands whenever you are ready and willing! I hope you'll keep stopping by and saying hi here more often too. We'd love to have you! There is a reason why most of the greatest online personalities got there start on Autopia.org and continue to show their support. We've gone though many interesting changes thoughout the last few years, but we are continuing to grow by leaps and bounds all while still being the greatest auto detailing forum on the internet. It is truly a detailer's detail forum!

I have dual residences actually. One in Florida (Wellington) and my main one in Michigan (Grosse Pointe).

Autopia is about as unbiased as you can get without some paid shill jumping in to push their product.

That is not even close to being a correct statement.

BTW, I am the one who asked Todd his opinion about 3D products since it seems not many over there have used them. Notice how he responded? He didn't push his own products, he gave a very politically correct and straight forward answer, as any representative of a company should do as to not turn off the consumer base.

An unbiased opinion is so popular to say, but when it's truly given, it's ripped apart if it doesn't agree with what was expected. How do I know? Look at any one of my many reviews here. If an unbiased opinion is asked for, is should be taken, and that's that.
