Halogen work lights at Home Depot

I can get roughly 8 more according to the manager at HD. I have 3 extras already. I'm extremely impressed w/ the quality for $20. No they aren't perfect but I don't think you could ask for more for the cost. Also, a positive comment for HD, they sold me 6 T8 fixtures all of which were missing hardware and only partially drilled, so when I had to drive all the way back tonight (an hour each way), they gave me a model that was $10 more each for the same price. Saved me roughly $60, more than enough to cover my gas. Kudos to Home Depot! :bigups

I bought this thing many months ago. It's not even worth $20. The stand completely self destructed in about three months, so if you're fine with just having a floor light, go right ahead and buy it. if you want an actual work light, go invest in the real deal.

Let me clarify, you cannot use this light as a baseball bat, sledge hammer, etc., but if you take care of it, I'm sure it will work just fine. If you throw any piece of equipment around/abuse it otherwise, it will EVENTUALLY wear out, the only difference is that more expensive units will take the abuse longer. For $20 I think the lights are a great deal. I've used them already and the stand is plenty sturdy for holding 2 halogen lights.

Mine just practically caught on fire.

Think I'll be returning it.

Interesting...I hate to give too much credibility to less-than-positive reviews (when the majority of people love their HD Halogens), but I do have to consider it...

It makes me wonder, though:

HD was/is selling massive amounts of those Rigid Shop Vacs for like $20-$35. A "steal"!

I picked one up, and the hose tore in 2 places after a few uses, and the while trying to attach the roller wheels, the plastic legs cracked.

I wonder if these things are so cheap because they really are cheap, and soon as HD realizes that, they put 'em up for pennies :sadpace:.

Those lights are POS don't waste your time they are only about 4 foot tall. Very unstable. I took mine back same day I bought it.

Just to provide a little counter-opinion, I picked some of these up last week and just set them up last weekend.

I don't have anything to compare them to, but for $20 I am very impressed. Basically it was these lights or no lights, I did not choose them over one of the more expensive models. Yes, the build quality is less than stellar, and they are not super sturdy...but, they work. I have been having a really hard time seeing swirls on my metallic black paint lately, and this thing makes them painfully visible. I also think they will work as my space heater for my garage this winter! :)

Just my $.02, YMMV.

I figured that was a pretty good deal and headed over to HD to buy the light.

I found the $19.88 1000w not near where the other lights were but up front by the checkout lanes.

I decided to go to the light isle and compare the lights with the others.

My "BIGGER IS BETTER" part of my brain took over and I bought a 1200 watt set up for $55 and a single 600 watt for $24 and change.

Here is the SWEET part - I found dual 250 watt (500watt total) on clearance for $9.76!!! I bought the last two.

Nice find.....I was just there on Sunday looking at/buying some lights myself.

For $19.99, the cheap ones are OK. In addition, I ended up buying a $44 Husky brand set from HD (1000W, sort of just below the price level of the super big ones you show). While your's looked pretty good to me, I was wondering how you get them to tilt "down"?? It looked to me like there was a stop cast into the lamp head preventing the lamps from going past top-dead upright. Is that the case?? Just thought I'd ask what you see in person.......the demo unit was up on a wall in my HD.

Thx.

See ya :wavey

There is a stop on one side that prevents the lights from being tilted down. I just turned the lights around and presto............

Notice they are tilted down in this pic.

i have had this unit for about two months now and have no complaints. i use it in my garage for my two vehicles. it may not be as tall as other units but it works just fine for the diy'er

I bought a dual-500 watt halogen light at HD, but it doesn't illuminate swirls...

I tried to use it last week inside a shop that had weak overhead lights, and the halogen didn't work. Do I have to use the halogen in the dark for it to work?

Ideas, please!

That $55 1200W set looks like a much better deal than the $19.99 POS. I'll have to head up there to check them out. :waxing: That single 600W would be real handy also. Thanks for the tip.

that red 1200 watt light stand is a beast. i was just at HD and they had a button that turns it on, and that sucker is bright. it has the two bulbs in each lamp as opposed to one that most all the others offer. if you go to your local post office and get a little change address packet that has the lowes 10% off coupon inside and HD will honor it...

Picked up the $20 2x500w halogen lights from HD the other day. If you're going from no lights to these lights, you can't go wrong. Obviously these aren't going to compete with more expensive setups in terms of sturdiness and overall quality, but for someone just looking for a simple, at-home setup these are a solid option.
