Halogen work lights at Home Depot

I pulled the trigger on one of these today and am really happy I did. It seems like a really nice setup; definitely really bright but extremely hot.

I picked these up yesterday, but I am going to return them today. The switches for the lights are low quality and only work like 30% of the time. You have to angle the switch just right when you press it in for it to click on. Of course you could replace the switch with a little bit of wiring, but that defeats the purpose of buying a cheap light. Plus I'm not too impressed with the build quality of the base. Too flimsy for me. But I guess for $20, you can't expect too much.

So for light duty home use they would be fine, but I wouldn't recommend them if you are running a professional shop or doing mobile work.

I've had this set up for the past 6 months, the only complaint I have is the telescoping mechanism will loosen over time and slip. In fact I had to return two of them within a week becasue of the problem. For twenty bucks its still a good deal.

Cheers,

GREG

I noticed the switches as well. If they ever give me any problems I'll just crack them open and fix something up. Clicking it a few times does not bother me though.

also noticed they had a removable wet/dry vac top that you use in conjunction with a 5 gallon bucket. you just put it on top of a 5 gallon bucket and use it like you would any normal wet/dry vac, it looked pretty interesting and you were able to demo it. IIRC... it was around $20+...

about the red and green ones, does it help that they both have 2 bulbs that go inside to help show defects?

I've found the extra 2 bulbs help a marginal amount. I usually just use 1 on each just to save energy but usually when i do the initial inspection i have all 4 on.

This looks virtually identical to the $20 setup I found at Sears a year or two ago. I've been very pleased with the utility and output of it. My first bulb burned out 2 weeks ago and I installed the spare bulb they provided.

I can remove each light from the stand and set it on the ground when needed...that's a nice feature. They do get very hot which is a minor downside. Shadows (when painting in the house, for example) can be a bit extreme.

cool, thanks for the input. i was just at another HD today, and they had the 250 watt X 2 stand that is normally $25 on clearance for $13. i was going to purchase it, but it was all taped and beaten up and looked like (ups handled it) it was damaged...

Garbage, for the everyday Joe who doesn't need a wet/dry vac its perfect. If you plan on using it for multiple times its a no-no

My HD doesn't list them as even an item online. Anyone else experience this?

i believe it's a promo item, and when they are all sold out that's probably going to be it, or they will raise the price to compete with the others they have...

I can't find this on Homedepot's website other than the link you sent which is your local ad. It isn't in my local ad either. Anyone in the midwest have any luck getting one of these for $20?

go in to your local HD and they will be in the front (they also had them where the other halogen light stands were as well) where the registers are and if you can't find it just ask...

Anybody in VA have luck getting this lamp? I called my local stores in Richmond and they only have the 500w for about $25.

It wasn't in my local ad, BUT I was headed there anyway to pick up some fluorescents for my garage and they had about 8 of them. I picked up 2. Thanks for the heads up!
