Got a ticket, what are my options?

Usually a reduction in points requires a higher fine or other fees. That's their incentive for the "bargain"

that has never been the case for me

I have always had less of a fine and no points

after going to court

The incentive in NYS is that the municipality gets to keep the revenues from parking tickets, while a certain amount of money goes to the state if they collect on a speeding ticket.

However, depending on how much his insurance would increase, it may be worth the additional cost. Not sure how to make the necessary calculations, however.

Just goto court and ask the DA to reduce it and pay the fine. You will not get any points as it will not be a points violation when he reduces it to a low speed ticket.
