Got a new Toy

LX1

New member
Well, I just got a new job and I am no longer detailing cars for Porsche. Things are doing good and I happen to come across this on Craigslist and had to have it. I always liked LS1 powered cars so I thought this would be fun.

Car had select scratches here and there but the clear on this car is hard and requires some compounding to get it where I wanted it. 90% correction. I wasn't motivated enough to pull the spoiler off to get the tailgate perfect. But maybe next summer I will get that portion done.

I did not get any before pictures, sorry. I know I know. I love seeing a hammered car come back to life. This one honestly wasn't too bad but required the rotary none the less.

Overall this was a 3 step job, total time was about 6-8 hours.

Started soaking the car with Dawn to pull everything off.

Did a clay bar treatment with Megs yellow clay.

Step 1

Rotary with random Silken Wool pad I had with M105

Step 2

Orbital and I tried out my new Megs compounding foam pad. This pad was a little stiff for my liking, but produced good results and no marring when finished

Step 3

Orbital with Megs yellow foam pad and M205

Washed the car one more time to get all the M205 oils off.

Finished with Klasse High Gloss Sealant.

Enjoy

Very nice! Is that a real SS, or a clone? I only ask because it appears to have the Z28 exhaust on it (never seen a real SS with those tips).

I'd still love to have one of those some day.

Thanks for the comments.

It is a real SS. First thing I checked when inspecting the car was the door card. But the previous owner had dumps before the axle. He got this stock catback from a friend so he could sell it. With the cam that is in the car, it is still very loud. I couldn't imagine it with with some bullet mufflers dumped under the seat.

Love the car. I have a NBM 4th-gen. I've been considering stripping and polishing my wheels, I love the polished/chrome look on the NBM. If your wondering what dumps sound like with a cam here is mine. .

You'll fall in love with that car. I think the only thing closer in bang for the buck these days is a LSX-foxbody

Scott, I have had good results on my car with the DA after the first buff using the rotary (which probably could have been avoided had I had some MF pads at the time), as long as the defects are moderate or less DA is fine I think. I don't think my paint is as hard as what the Corvettes are notorious for. Maybe its that silly Canadian clear .

I was the first in the country to do 6-speed LS1 Notch LX Mustang. Hence my screen name LX1. There were a couple automatic ones already on the streets but heres a couple of pics just when I got it running. Unfortunately, I needed to pay for school and sold it. The only picture I have of the whole car is from the proud new owner.

I have really been kicking around the idea of a JY turbo foxbody, but I have the suspension of my Camaro almost completely finished so I am thinking about changing from N2o to turbo. Can't decide. I wouldn't have the car to drive for a while but pulling and reading plugs gets old. So building a fox would give me both, i could have the F-body to drive and the crazy turbo foxbody for street/strip duty. All the fox rollers in my area here have been J-U-N-K!!

Your fox was definitely a sleeper for sure. If your swap was that early on in the whole LS-Fox crazy did you just use custom mounts on the stock K-member? I had considered going this route with the adapter mounts but I was wary of the K-members integrity when faced with a boost 5.3. But if it would hold that would save alot up front and you could always go back and do something like the AJE or one of the other K's.

I used a k member from PA Racing with Chevy mounts and the road racing option. Then made a custom bracket to bolt to the solid mounts. It wasn't the prettiest of setups. But it worked. Had to notch the oil pan and get drop bushing from steeda for the rack to fit. I was originally going to road race the car but with everything i needed to do to get the motor fit in. It was destined for drag racing. Over steered like a mother, but it was fun. Kept the 3.27 gear in the back so 1st took me to over 60. I would just hammer it and it would hook up.
