I have no problem indicating that I work for a company that sells the products I am recommending, and even noting it in my signature.
Mindflux said:Todd. There are no longer Autopia sponsors. The new admins are doing away with sponsorship all together. Post what you want.
Setec Astronomy said:I know you two have a personal ax to grind, but this would appear to be the relevant forum rule as listed in the FAQ's (http://www.autopia.org/forum/faq.php?faq=new_faq_item#faq_spamming) :
"If you represent a car care product vendor, please identify your business in your signature line (phone numbers, email addresses and website URLs are not allowed)."
So, Todd, it would certainly seem as though you should have your affiliation listed, and it would seem from this page http://www.autopia.org/forum/showgroups.php that Thomas has some affiliation with HD which should also be noted.
That notwithstanding possible changes to the rules shortly when the Autopia store opens.
PS Todd, I don't think you have to worry about offending any paying sponsors with your signature as Tunch (owner) has stated that there will no longer be sponsors as of now or when the new store opens.
Setec Astronomy said:I'm not going to argue this, but I don't think that the lack of sponsors is going to change the rules about spamming and shilling. The new owner has stated his intention to have as non-biased a forum as possible, which to me doesn't mean a free-for-all where there is no identification of possible conflicts of interest. Tunch has also stated that there will still be "vendor" forums, rather than "sponsor" forums...so if you can't be a sponsor, I'm presuming a vendor is someone who sells in the Autopia store...in which case...I'm not sure I see much difference between a sponsor and a vendor, nor much change from where we are now.

Thanks for the clarification Setec. I will include the required information regarding forum rules.
Mindflux said:I think Autopia is gonna have their own store, not help others market their stuff (like amazon marketplace). So to me "vendors" merely means "manufacturers the Autopia store carries".
Mindflux said:I'm all for banning shills, but that means shills that push nothing but 3D products too.

tdekany said:If I am guilty for listing the products I use than what will you do about everyone else?
I guess if everyone uses 105/205 or SIP/106ff on all their details that is ok but because I use HD UNO you think I am schilling?
Setec Astronomy said:Ok...I guess I understand that now--so that means that the Autopia store and vendor forum will only be manufacturers...so Autogeek will be out...but wait Autogeek manufactures several lines...so--it will pretty much be the same as now, right? Or Autogeek will be out? Well, I guess we'll know in a week or two.
You guys and your cliques...who said anything about banning? The issue was simply one of identifying conflicts of interest. And if you actually read my post, you'd see that I suggested that both sides needed to clarify their business relationships, not just one or the other.
Setec Astronomy said:Well, since this isn't really about shilling but about cliques and old grudges--but since I brought it up, Thomas perhaps you can clear up what that "HD" listing is on this page http://www.autopia.org/forum/showgroups.php that you appear in. I vaguely remember DavidB recruiting people to sell the HD line through some sort of proxy web store...I don't know what ever happened with that.

Mindflux said:Well to me it feels obvious you are shilling. I don't get an obvious "shill vibe" from most of the other members. To me there's a clear line between using products because they are your favorite and using them because it earns you brownie points with a manufacturer. So you can tell me all day long you have no affiliation with 3D but I will never believe that.
