Good OTC topper???

I was bored this past weekend and decided to detail the exterior of my Mazda 3 with whatever I had lying around half used that I wouldn't use on customer's cars. LOL Sometimes I also like to see what can be done without all the "special" products that we all know and use every day. So I did a Dawn wash, clayed the entire vehicle with some Mother's clay, and then using the PC applied Meg's deep crystal paint cleaner and deep crystal polish. I finished with a coat of NXT by hand. I have to say that the results were pretty darn good considering what I used. Other than the fact that the finish lacks some warmth I must say that it is extremely clean and reflective. I am looking for an OTC topper for the NXT that will give me some warmth and complete my OTC transformation. I happen to have some Gliptone carnauba cream wax lying around, but was hoping for other suggestions, preferably paste and not liquid. I'll post pics once completed! Fire away with your suggestions! :-p
 
meguiars #26. it comes in paste form but ive only seen it in liquid. u can also get one of my favorite toppers and get a hold of some turtle wax ultra gloss paste. it has very light light cleaners that i doubt would do anything as long as u apply it by hand with smooth motions and not pressing it into the paint.


actually. forget the meguiars #26. just use the turtle wax...
 
Thanks for the recommendations guys---I slid over to Pep Boys on lunch and grabbed a 16 oz #26 liquid. I held the turtle wax in my hand for about 5 seconds, but couldn't do it :jump I almost bought the Mother's carnauba paste wax---I even opened it to see the nice crumbly waxy texture that I love so much about pastes. Oh well, knowing me i'll top it off with some P21S in a few weeks anyway because I can never sit still. Still can't bring myself to cough up $70 for the Souveran yet :nono Not for a $16,000 car anyway!!!
 
You might want to use Meguiar's ColorX before the NXT.
Nice combination and keeps it in the Meg's family. :)

I already did the NXT after the paint cleaner and the deep crystal polish. Truthfully the car has always been well kept so it probably didn't need it, I just love to play around. I love the squeak of a really clean paint surface when removing polish :D Here are some pics of the car (These were taken the end of last summer I believe..)

The car looks great.
If you use the ColorX, you will give the Deep Crystal stuff away.
The NXT really doesn't need a topper, does it? I was pretty happy with it as a LSP when I tried it.
Also, the Dawn could go back in the kitchen.:) IMO anyway.
 
I was just trying to get rid of the deep crystal stuff really. I had used it on my dads car a while back and wanted to clear out some room on my shelves. I usually use AIO as a cleaner, and SSR 2.5 or 1 for swirl removal and polishing. The Dawn was there to help get rid of the layers of wax that was on the car before. I still like to use Dawn when performing a full detail on a customers car, or when starting from scratch on my own. For maintenance normally I like 4*'s Ultimate car wash for my car, NXT for customers.
I do feel the NXT liquid does need a topper. This was my first time using it (I always like to try new stuff), and it leaves a nice shine but lacks the warmth I am used to with carnauba waxes. I am very impressed with the ease of applying and removing, as well as the scent of it. Slickness could be improved, but it isn't bad either. My whole point of this silly excercise anyway is to see how nice of a look I could achieve with products readily available to Joe Average in their local store. Based upon the results so far i'd have to say "Good, but not great." I'll know better after the #26 which I hope will help quite a bit....
 
So I had a chance to do the #26 to the front of the vehicle last night in my garage. Hit the hood, front fenders, and lower fascia. Using the #26 reminded me just how easy the NXT is to apply and remove!!! Let's just say the #26 does not glide on so well in comparison. On a good note, it does have a nice fresh banana scent reminiscent of circus peanuts ; ) Removing it was easy though and it did leave a nice slick surface, better than the NXT IMO. Couldn't tell this morning if the shine was enhanced as it was cloudy/misty on LI and the car had fine water droplets all over it from being outside.
 
#26 on top of the nxt will take away some bit of the shine. but it will add depth. next time u use #26 get distilled water (preferably cold - hense the spit shine method) and spray it onto the surface of the car. it will make application a million times easier. then get the same water and buff off. same can be done with qd spray. just leave it in the fridge overnight.

p.s. GIVE THE DARN TURTLE WAX A TRY!
 
I did. Definitely a jaw-dropper. My Camry is similar dark green as your Mini. I polished the left side of the car with 1Z Pasta Intensiv (basically Ultra Body Shop), then High Gloss Polish. The finish was nice, ready to wax. I was playing around with the TWPUG and decided to try it on the rear fender.

It went on easy, set and dried extremely quickly and came off easy. Results?
OMG! A darkened, mile deep, smooth finish with extraordinary clarity. Slickness and resolution has improved after a few hours. Amazing wax, OTC or not!

my same experiece. im glad someone else saw it and its not me smelling too many chemicals...TWPSUG is the shizzle... i never gave it a chance for durabilty nor did i add extra coats, but that one time was more than enough.
 
S100 is the best wax available locally. Mother's Reflections is a good sealant-type product as well with super easy removal.
 
I would be curious, but neither is available here... And when I order something from overseas, it won't be an OTC product. But the TWPUG is extraordinary and I'm fine with that and with my NXT Paste.
Besides, we have tons of Sonax stuff OTC, and they are terrific too, especially the pro-line.
 
So i finally finished with the OTC detail today after a few days of rain. here are the pics---decide for your self how it looks :lol I have to say the #26 definitely gave it the look I wanted, but I still didn't like appyling it.
 
does it glow in the dark too? these mazda paints are notorious for giving such awesome paints to detail. everything is right on track except for orange peel of course.
 
I just made a quick comparison of all of my LSPs. I applied 1Z Glanz/Sprüh wax, Sonax Xtreme1 Carnauba liquid/paste, the three Victoria waxes and TWPUG half panel-by half panel.

TWPUG is still amazing, by far the deepest, wettest of them all. Surprisingly, the Victoria Concours is one of the most reflective. The Sonax carnaubas in this comparison are nothing to write home about, and the other Victorias are just nice. I layered Victoria Collectors over the TWPUG and that is eye candy! The TWPUG darkened the finish the most, the others are very similar - basically imperceptible.
In terms of slickness the TWPUG is the first, with the Sprüh Wax as a close second. The carnauba pastes are similar, but the Victorias have a thicker feel, while the Sonax a bit slicker.

I'd never thought of that...

P.S.: They are all sitting calmly over 1Z Pasta Intensiv & High Gloss Polish. :D
