Good bye old faithful, hello gorgeous

So today I just sold my `05 Saturn Ion who has been a very faithful car for the last 6 plus years; but with the need of front calipers, front and rear suspension, and the fuel line leak that appeared last week it was time for her and i to part ways. But tomorrow I will be picking up the new to me `05 Malibu with less than 50k miles on it. This thread will be used to show and talk about all that i do to the Malibu. The white paint is so oxidized that it looks like its a flat paint especially on the top. my plan for the exterior is to do a 2 or 3 step buff and polish before applying Dr. Beasley`s nano-resin hydrophobic coating, Then i plan on using carpro fabric coating atleast on back seat were my 9 month old son will be sitting. Pictures to follow as i do updates

Congrats! Oxidized paint is fun and will give you such a satisfying feeling once polished! Be sure to stock up on plenty of pads!

I had an 05 Ion as a winter car for 10 years; it was a weird car but guess it was reliable if mundane.

I had to replace a door lock mechanism once and it was quite convenient how the whole outer door skin could be quickly removed with about 8 screws and a few plastic tabs.

Mine didn`t like the snow of winter I hope the Malibu does better as it`s a heavier car with bit longer wheel base

Civicclutch- That oughta be a good project, and a great daily when you`re finished!

If it were mine, I`d *absolutely* start with a chemical decontamination; you wouldn`t believe the diff it made on the utterly trashed white Crown Vic I had (your car looks brand-new by comparison, you can even tell it`s white rather than light gray-beige).

You gonna have that bumpercover pulled off and reshot?

I planned on. First step is the washing where I will presoak with pb bs, foamed and washed, then 3D bdx followed by another foam to wash out crevices that bdx got into and get it off the paint. Then I`m gonna do a mechanical decon probably start with the groits "clay" wash mitt then an actual clay followed by a final wash. I expect to take 3+ hrs on washing it just to get it completely cleaned as it has probably only been taken through a tunnel of terror it`s whole life.

And this will become my wife`s dd and her g6 will then become mine till we upgrade the g6 next year

Civicclutch- Heh heh...I came across completely wrong! I was joking about how I can`t do mine that fast!

I gather your wife`s OK with having this for her daily.

It looks like the (light) interior and the wheels are in good shape, and those wheels look nice and easy to clean.

She is happy to upgrade from her base lvl g6. And the interior is very clean the only seat used was driver side and she used pillows to help her see over the dash (lol). And the rims are in really great shape and hopefully by next spring to have funds to make them designated winter rims and get nicer rims for the summer.

Civicclutch- Ah, sounds great all the way around! I know so little about G6`s that I couldn`t guess :D

Oh man are you lucky about that light gray interior being so clean, huh?!?
