Getting rid of gas smell

I'd start off with 3M's Finesse It II preferably with a PC then I'd follow it up with SMR. Then either wax directly over the buffed off SMR or wash the car then use a polymer sealant.

On my non-clearcoated car, I always start with either Meguiar's #9 2.0 or 3M SMR, rather than with FI-II. If the SMR/2.0 doesnt work, then I move up to the more aggressive stuff.

I also use zaino z5 which helps hide swirls until I decide to remove them.

#9 and the 3M SMR just dont do much for me when they're used with the PC, they do work well with a rotary, and for a final buff with the PC before waxing-sealing. FI2 works well at removing scratches and swirls with the PC.

But that's just me.

Mucho gracias everyone above, my plan of action will be 3M SMR and if that doesn't leave me satisfied go out and purchase some 3M Finesse IT 2...

Pics of my Zainoed/zfx'ed car coming soon, is it okay for me to post them in this section or should I in the pictures forum?

The other day, I had to go to the gas station to refill my gas can for my lawn mower. After I had it filled it, I closed it tightly and placed in in my trunk. When I stopped at a red light, I heard the can tip over in the trunk, so I got out, and noticed that the top was leaking gas into my trunk. I tried to blot it up and then sprayed APC+ onto it, but the interior still smells like gas.

Any ideas on how to get rid of that smell?

CG has a great apple scented odor eliminator that i have used with smokers/spills.....if not you might have to use one of those dakota scent bomb things.

BTW Flash if you see this it was a half day....parent conferences

Chad,

I tried the solution in the article. First, I sprayed white vinegar over the area of the spill. Then I vacuumed the area of any excess vinegar. Now I have baking soda over the area in the trunk. I will leave it there for at least a few days.

I will let you know how it turns out.

Thanks for the advice.

Definitely let us know how it works...I'm know always worried about spilling gas when I run down to fill up the gas can...

I think this is probably like a common cold.

Use a remedy and the trouble will clear up in 7 days.

If you do nothing, it will take a week.

Barry,

Sorry this had to happen to your new car ! :(

Do you have any of Meguiars Odor Eliminator ? Believe its on Sale here at PAC. If I had to clean up any odor, I would also try this, since it goes after the odor enzymes to kill them, rather than just trying to mask the smell.

I worry about this once a year when I go get at least 10 gallons of gas in case I have to use the Generator in the Winter, in my Jeep.

What I do to help prevent spilling the 2 containers, is to find a couple of boxes that are bigger than the containers and add stuff (bubblewrap) around the gas cans so the can wont move in the middle of the box.

This spreads the weight of the gas can over a bigger area and makes it harder to tip over - well, except when you go by the house on 2 wheels and all.........:):):) Dont bother denying - we have YouTube evidence !!!!!! :)

park your car in a garage, open all windows and trunk (disconnect a battery if you have trunk light) and let it air out...it might take a couple of days...

I might just have to try the Meguiars Odor Eliminator. The vinegar and the Baking Soda didn't get rid of the smell. It has now been present for over a week, so I think I will move on to the next solution.

Flash,
I like your idea about the wife's car. Unfortunately, I don't need that kind of aggrivation (if you know what i meen).:Swordfight:

Barry,
Sorry to hear you still have that gasoline smell in the car.

If you try my go-to smell elimanator by Meguiars, make sure you get everything out of the way of where the gas spilled, so the product can come in contact with the surface/s. Spray it on so it wets the surface but not soaks it, let it dry. For some odors, you may have to repeat the process.

I havent tried it out on gasoline smell yet, but it worked great a killing the smell of a dead rodent behind the console of a BMW 550 a couple of weeks ago. Of course, I cleaned the carpet really well, let it dry, and then applied the Megs Odor Elimanator..

Hope this works once and for all for you guys !
