Gaining those high end customers!!

OP, you could do a lot worse then modeling after Mose's website. They are not hard to create.

Mose, I am assuming you carry insurance on customers cars in case something happens to them when they are in your possesion?

No.....I just move everytime that happens. Leave the car out front with the keys in it and call UHaul. :LOLOL

I'm telling you, you NEED a website. Get some pictures online of you performing some nice paint correction and they will come. Just make sure if you're going after these types of customers you're charging accordingly. Nobody with a Ferrari is expecting a perfect detail for $200.

Good luck.

John

+1 on the website, a must. When the weather is bad and people have nothing to do, they are on their computers. During the busy season, I always get more calls after a day or two of rain.

rdorman I didn't ask for a deposit from the guy. He said that he will be coming back next week and he gave me a twenty and told me to make sure his car is done right.

Working on a higher end car for me is more satisfying. I used to be a mechanic and I would rather work on the higher end cars. I feel like customers satisfaction is key and challenging. I love challenges! It's not that I don't advertise to just them, I tell all my friends and have them tell their friends and parents.

Gotcha! Sounds like this customer is excited to see what you can do. That is confidence inspiring.

Tssdetailing, I am going to be in Cincy for Dad's weekend at UC in April. I may give you a call. I would like to get the 7 to the 90+ plus area. Rare to see an Imola Red E38.

90+ mph? Just hit the gas, Rick! Or i'll be happy to do it for ya!

When I first bought the car I was getting on the freeway. I look around and everyone is going so slow. So, I back off a bit, look around for cops, an accident, something to explain why everyone is going so darn slow. Then I look at my speedometer..... Oops! It wasn't them that is for sure. Sure a 740i Sport is no speed demon but this 160mph luxury cruiser has no impression of speed.

This is a very good thread!

Much respect and thanks to rdorman for his "market insights". He is very right about working your way in slowly. I'm 27 and have been doing this for nearly 10 years and am finally getting some real high end cars. However they are not the majority. Then again, I see some younger/inexperienced detailers (especially on CL) that have lots of Ferraris and other high end cars. Two things you can take from that, 1: sometimes you just get lucky, 2. Not all high end customers value high end work, they want it as cheap as possible. Unfortunate but true.

Thanks Jeff. Just a customer that knows what he wants! You are dead on about not all high end customers want high end work. Or could it be that high end customers want high end work at low end prices :chuckle:

The wealthy tend to stay that way by holding on to their money. Sure you will meet the occasion generious and appreciative ones.

Personally, I love a bargain. But I appreciate quality. So, I always look for the best quality possible at the most reasonable price possible. Not cheap, just a good price. The Stealership wanted $2200 to do some work on my 740 which is ridiculous. So, I ordered the parts (same ones they where going to use) and called up my mechanic. Total, $700. A small business and a good guy gets the work and I save a chunk of change (I have some detailing to pay for!), a win-win.

Yep, exactly. I appreciate a good deal and if someone wants to work with me on the price to where its beneficial to both of us, giving a deal can be fun. Not to brown-nose, but you're a smart guy and I wish more of my clients thought things through like you do.

Thanks Jeff. I have read a number of your threads and it looks like you do nice work!

I think my appreciation for detailers and mechanics is that I do it myself. I know how much work it can be and I appreciate a job well done.

I bought the Cobra because I like to work on cars in my spare time and learned much of what little I know about detailing on that car. Sure I would detail my daily drivers but not like the Cobra. I could easily spend a whole day just on the engine... and I drove that car every chance I got! Might as well look good tearing up the road, right? :har:

I am in Columbus and going down to Cincy for Dad's weekend at UC and I am going to have Tssdetailing do my daily driver when down there. Just being on this forum can get you some business and if it does, then it is probably from a another enthusiast. A business exchange I find more rewarding.

So after a rough couple hours, emailing presidents of local car clubs and working on this website. Here is what I've created I would love your constructive criticism if you have any...

A Detailed Finish- Premium Automotive Detailing

I'm working on getting the domain. Right now funds are a lil tight because I just put in an order for polishes and for my clear bra material!!

Well, funds might be a little tighter for you if I decide to pursue this...I dont know if I should be flattered or pissed off you copied my pictures and are passing them off as your own. At first I thought, no way he has done all those cars on the front page when he is asking for info on how to get higher end clientel. And then I jump around and look at your procedures page and what do I see...not one but TWO pictures of a BMW that I posted up...I did you a favor of screen printing your page so you can see it right here.

picturecopyofmine.jpg

take them down and get your own work up. I'd imagine being in business for over a year you would have your own pictures to use, unless you really just dont know what you are doing...maybe thats why you arent getting the work.

Toyotaguy... Terribly sorry about those pics... Meant to change those to a BMW I did last week... I got confused when they are so little... Again my deepest apologies and my own pictures will be posted up

FYI there is a note on the last page saying that all cars are not actual customers..

If the bulk of yoru work ends up being 20+ hour correction work you will look back at your weekly wash and wax days with fond memories...

Another thing, stealing other peoples pics is just low! Regardless of the fact that you claim it was not intentional I just don't see how it could be anything other than very intentional. I find it hard to believe that after 6 years of "detailing" you don't have any of your own work to use on your site!
