FREE DVD: Griots Teaches Machine Polishing

I assume that it wouldn't as they give it away for free but ok thx!

That's not what the law says. Price has nothing to do with it. It is still their copyright and it can't be reproduced etc without their permission.

Has anyone received theirs yet? I requested mine on the 2nd after seeing this post (thanks RatedG) and it has yet to arrive. Are they delivering by horseback or something?

Same here and haven't seen mine yet

So it's basically useless? :)

It was to me. Well, not entirely true. Jewel case is still worth something and I am using DVD to test abrasiveness of towels. :grinno:

I need a PC video that shows how they detail around the door handle or non flat surface.

How much area do I actually need to tape off?

If someone can find a series of pictures or a video can they please post it?

all the instruction video shows flat surface..... :(

I got mine today! I agree its not worth the wait for the majority of the board. If you were just starting in auto detailing it would be good.

got mine yesterday, and here are some observations (not complaining it was free!)...

1. notice how that griots orbital seems to bog down or slide around with hardly any pressure at all...

2. *key selling point* for the griots random orbital is he mentions never to use a rotary...

anybody else notice something?

That he is a major supplier and concourse participant?

(sorry, couldn't help myself)

I received the dvd today. A few things really stood out to me:

  • the orbital appears to bog down, as bigal3 mentions. There were moments when the pad completely stopped rotating and it was just being slid across the car.

  • the rotary gets slammed--something to the effect that direct-drive machines will leave uniform scratchmarks everywhere and that these types of machines are to be avoided no matter how talented the person is.

  • I've never seen so much product used on a pad. I guess it's the nature of the Griot's polishes and waxes (I've never used them), but holy moly! As he was slathering the polish onto the pad, he said to think of it as though you're buttering a piece of bread!! Almost the same deal with the wax, too. He did say that a little wax goes a long way, so warned not to oversaturate the pad. Can't imagine...lol!

Don't want to sound negative. I appreciate that the dvd was free and I do really like certain Griot's products, but couldn't help but notice the above.

One cool thing is that you get a 10% discount code that you can use for any Griot's product, so it may be worth getting the dvd just for that. (The description sounded like there were conditions, but there aren't. I called and asked).

Griot's used to sell a (IMO) better one with a rotating handle/knob. IIRC TOL has the better one...that rotating handle makes a big difference ;) But Griot's has lots of other good stuff.

The Tire Dress Express is the only product of its kind on the market. The perfect tool for a lifetime of use!

Durable: Steel rivets permanently secure velcro to the paddle.

Dress Express is the only 100% "guaranteed not to come apart" tire dressing applicator on the market! The Dress Express is not glued together so it won't come apart when you use a solvent dressing.

Ergonomic: Swivel handle reduces arm & shoulder fatigue and keeps dressings off your hands.

The Dress Express's large, comfortable swivel handle enables consistent wrist position. The paddle swivels with the curve of the tire. You hand remains stationary and never come in contact with harsh chemicals.

No Waste: Provides even dressing coverage without using an excessive amount of tire protectant.

The Dress Express's unique design enables use with any size tire. Sports cars to fleet trucks, one swipe does it!

No Sling-Off: Eliminates tire dressing over spray on wheels and body paint.

Perfect application is achieved with thousands of 1/4" Microhair bristles in a 1/2" foam backing. Dressings are spread thinly and evenly over the surface.

Versatile: Microhair and Scrubbing pads are easily interchanged with the Velcro® backing system.

Dress Express isn't just a pretty face! It also doubles as a tough tire scrubber by simply changing the dressing pad to the Scotchbrite type Scrubbing Pad!

Wear out one of the pads? No problem, just replace it with a new one!

bigal3- Heh heh, easy choice IMO ;) I really despised doing the tire dressing application before I got that pad holder with the rotating handle, I was shocked by what a difference such a little thing could make.
