Ford Fusion named "Most Washable"...

I just found this on Jalopnik:

"It may not be a star performer in the crash-test realm (c’mon, standard curtain airbags are this year’s black), but at least the Ford Fusion has great crevices. The International Car Wash Association (seriously, there is one) has elected the 2006 Fusion as its “Most Washable Car of 2006, for an exterior design that promotes good washing, including its “moldings, bumpers, mirrors and wipers that are securely attached, its smooth lines, and its lack of dirt-trapping indentations and crevices. We’re feeling kind of uncomfortable right about now."

Ford can now add the "most washable" tagline to a new commercial. They'll be selling 'em like hotcakes! :D

"The Ford Fusion. Not safe on the road so just keep it in the car wash."

Come on man! Join on the Michiganders against Fusion bandwagon! ;) I actually though the Fusion was a decent car until I did see the crash test.

:har: Bob, if i'd been drinking while reading your post, it would've shot right out my nose!

I havent seen the crash test, where they that bad? But it seems most on here think a car is crap unless it wears a German or Japanese badge. Im still trying to be a Ford guy, but after killing SVT im finding harder and harder.

Yeah, they got the sorst crash test rating. BUT, they were crash tested without the optional side airbag so I am sure those would help.

Off Topic, they killed the special vehicle team? I did not know that.

Edit: Nevermind, I found this http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Columns/articleId=109512

That sucks.

I didn't see any reference to the Fusion here that stated it was a crap car. IMO, the Fusion is at best unattractive from a styling standpoint.

"Ford hasn't cornered the market on ugly cars, they've just upped the ante with the Fusion." :grinno:

I'm curious as to which test areas this was based on. Not just "tighter moldings, seems, and jams".

With the horse manuer I've seen come out of that publication, I wouldn't doubt if one car wash thought this and they wrote about. Honestly, how do you think they fill that magazine each month with anything other than advertisements?

I don't know about you guys, but I like to have bumpers and mirrors that are securely attached.

I'm always knocking off my bumpers when I wash my car. My mirrors.. well their long gone.

Really sorry to hear about the SVT group. They did make Ford products interesting.

Maybe its just me but I think that the Fusion is a sharp car, so is the Hyundai Sonata. Most other cars look the same. I think that after the 50s it was all down hill. Mabe thats why retro styling.

I agree the Fusion and its siblings (Mercury Milan and Lincon Zephyr) are good looking cars for the most part. Oh and its not just Ford that has the corner on ugly!

I really like the Zephyr. It always grabs my attention when I see one.

Did you go to the Detroit Autorama LightningSVT? They where some sweet fords there. Someone had two GT 500 Stangs but they were called something like E GT 500 or something. And then there was a Ford 500 that was called a GT as well and it had a rear engine transplant. Was pretty sweet. I can not find any info. online about it though.

Ford has already announced that they are going to make the side airbags standard on the Fusion for 2007. Most likely a direct result of that test.

http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2006-03-06-side-crash-tests_x.htm?POE=NEWISVA

Ford spokesman Dan Jarvis said side air bags and side curtain bags would be standard on 2007 models, built after September. The automaker has requested additional front and side-impact testing for a model with the air-bag option, which costs an additional $595.
