Ford F150 King Ranch Edition: 1/2 detail (no 56k)

I just ran out of time on this one, but it's a work truck, so the extra effort for perfect is a bit of a waste. I'm pleased with the results, and these big jobs really help me burn through my pre-autopia products. All told, probably 6 man-hours between my wife & I, which really isn't bad when you consider the amount of Hawaiian red dirt on this truck.

Dish soap wash, NXT wax w/ Craftsman buffer. Simple green & stiff brush on all the vinyl trim.

Unfortunately, the pictures don't show the huge black scratch that I hand-polished out for about an hour. It is obscured by the line of light in the side picture, but it was a real PITA.

Eagle wheel cleaner, Simple Green (tires), Armor All Tire Shine.

I'm thrilled with the Eagle One wheel cleaner, and I am not really happy w/ the AA Tire stuff, but this truck nearly killed the rest of the bottle, so I'll upgrade soon.

Interior

Simple green, Megs GC leather cleaner/conditioner, Spray Foam Carpet spotter.

I absolutely love the saddle style interior on these King Ranch Fords. It's so durable and comfortable. Alas, these seats need a lot more care than I could provide this past Sunday, but the conditioner was a good start, the leather really sucked it up. I think some saddle soap will clean them up nicely.

I really wish I hadn't run out of time on this one, but I guess that's life. I missed a couple of spots, the dash & doors still need to be sprayed down with some protectant and the glass needs to be polished. Actually, the whole truck needs to be clayed & polished. Oh well, maybe for father's day.

The heck with the work truck. Looks like and abused truck. It also looks like you are a good care giver.

What ever you did to the seats is a welcome. I liked the look of the after shots!

Nice job on the paint for just one stepping it. The interior looks a lot better too. I bet you have about 10 pounds of dirt in your vacuum now!

Nice work! That leather is pretty cool looking. I was in Hawaii two years ago and I got some of that red dirt on my shorts while I was playing golf and it's still there to this day. So, I'm very impressed with how you've managed to remove it from your car.

Well, it's really stained. Before this weekend it was stained and **very** dried out. I used a cleaner/conditioner on it. It really absorbed the conditioner, but it certainly needs some more cleaning. I think some saddle soap should get a lot of the stains & grime out, but I didn't have time or saddle soap this weekend.

The interior is a saddle style leather from the King Ranch in Texas (I think). It looks incredible when it is in good condition.

No way I would have sent that truck out like that after looking at the wheel/tire pic.. The tire is still filthy and the dressing is uneven. Painfully obvious.

It's OK, he's right. Like I said in the original post, I don't like the tire dressing I have, I was trying to use it up so I can get a different product. Heck, I'm just happy I got the white lettering to stand out again. I'm not making any excuses, I even titled the thread "1/2 detail" because it certainly wasn't a full detail. I can see a dozen places I missed on the interior pictures alone. I didn't even touch the engine or inside the wheel wells.

When Lorne posts pictures of a quicky *free* detail he does on a work truck that is infested with Hawaiian red dirt we can all point out things we would have done better. Heck, when Lorne gets around to posting ANY detail he has done, we can give it a good going over.

That's beautiful leather, but I think it might be uncoated. Probably best to keep it well conditioned to make sure it doesn't dry out and crack. It certainly has absorbed sweat, etc. from the driver (dark spots).

Nice looking detail, considering what you started with. I don't understand why you started with dish soap, though. Nothing wrong with NXT - lots of people use it on a regular basis with nice results.

Did you use the simple green on the leather?!?

I noticed it too but he already acknowledged it in his thread title. Even if he did clean it up, it'd be back to the way it is in no time.

The truck looks pretty good as it is considering it was only a one-step process pretty much.

I don't like the look of the leather myself, but it aint my truck.

I use NXT wash on my cars and I like it, but I thought the dish soap would strip the car better, not that there was any wax anywhere near the car in the past year.

After I finish the bottle of NXT wax I'll probably step up the product quality chain a bit. Unfortunately, I should probably have 3 different products for my 3 different cars, which could get expensive.

Mequires Gold Class Cleaner & Conditioner. Unfortunately, the seats need a much stronger cleaner, but they really appreciated the conditioner none the less.

NICE...saddle leather..very fitting for work truck...

Ill add it was a decent job for just a quicky an a ABUSED work truck. I'll give you credit for the ffort, it was very dirty to start with. But who the heck treats a $45k truck like that? This was a customers truck, right?

EXACTLY what I was thinking. Of all the "work trucks" on the market, the King Ranch Ford is NOT one of them. Even though I despise Fords, it's a shame to see a high end truck treated so poorly.
