FMJ - Dry time

Stick with the Menzerna line, specifically FTG, for a base. I let FMJ sit on the car for the time it takes to complete one half of the car, I divide into two parts and wait a minimum of 12 hours before adding another layer. If you are going to layer you can let the second and third coats sit longer before wiping off.

Although i haven't tried AIO, someone on here had bad results with it. I would use FPII if you have it, or a true polish(no fillers).

I tried AIO as a base on a test panel and didn't get any adverse reaction. Can you ellaborate on the bad results?

Do you guys think that if I applied FMJ over Z2Pro, it would hurt the Z2 Pro? I don't expect the FMJ to last as long as the Z2 Pro, so I would hate to have to start over.

Drying time is a more than Z2 Pro, but this is standard fare for liquid polymer products. Just make sure it wipes off without streaking or spreading the product around and is fully hazed.

billnorth performed the test had about 2 weeks durability with aio as the base, try a search on his username and FMJ. he actually tested 4 products at the same time which could have hurt the process.

But why use AIO anyway? why not just a pure polish and let it bond to the paint? i don't want to get into this dicussion again, but why put it on anything that leaves a layer behind that it may not bond too, is my reasoning for not using AIO.

hey JustinTRW, could you do a side by side with Z2Pro and FMJ as a durability test? I think that would be interesting.

CMA recommends using FTG before FMJ. From what I understand FTG leaves quite a bit behind (fillers) but works well with FMJ so why wouldn't AIO?

If AIO doesn't work well with FMJ it's the first product I have heard of that AIO isn't a good base for.

I recommended FTG??

i will never understand how a product that leaves a layer behind is a good base for anything, unless they are of the same make up. why not just bond to the paint.

Dry time is very quick IMO. Although, when I used it the other day, I let it sit on my aunts car while I washed my car. It was more than ready and that was maybe 15 minutes after applying. As for a base, any of the Menzerna product would be a great base. Menzerna polishes leave nothing behind which makes them a great base. As for AIO, it should be fine, I'm not really an AIO kind of guy so I can't say for sure. I used Menzerna PO85RD, and topped with FMJ x2 in this pic and it should do fine. Here is the link to my post as well if you want to check it out!

I didn't say you recommended FTG. I said CMA did.

My point was if a glaze that leaves fillers behind can work with FMJ I would think AIO would work well with FMJ too.

Ive used Aio as a base on my first go around with FMJ, posted this a while ago. I didn't see any adverse affects immediately. Im still testing the durability on my wifes conversion van so I have not come to a final conclusion with this cocmbo. However, I think L33 has a valid point about using a polish that leaves nothing behind. It's a good argument in my opinion.

Yes, I think I could. How about a car that sits outside 24/7 rather than one that is only driven on sunny weekends? That will really be harsh on the products.

Interesting note about the AIO compatibility problems. FMJ could also be acrylic. From the CMA website about the new Menzerna QD: " Here's the maintenance product FMJ customers have been asking for. It contains the same super slippery, acrylic polymer used in Menzerna FMJ."

So it would seem that perhaps the oils in AIO make it hard for FMJ to bond or they polymers are simply incompatible. But it seems odd that the QD is being touted as the perfect compliment to both AIO and FMJ. Platinum sells have always recommended AIO underneath and in fact, some have bundled both together.

Oils in AIO? I don't think there is.

If FMJ can bond to a surface that has FTG applied I think it will work with AIO.
