Flex polishers...

Instead of the Cyclo when I need to do serious correction on hard clear and in cases where the Cyclo isn't right due to the vehicles contours/etc. (e.g., it's just not the right machine for sections of my XJS).

Instead of the rotary all the time unless I need the rotary's added power (not too likely in these days of stuff like M105).

I see. So the Flex seems to be primarily for you a substitute for your rotary. I recall you saying above that you don't use the rotary enought to really master it like the pro's do.

So far my rotary and I have been getting along but that may be because I have hard paint (therefore holograms are minimized) that is white (therefore holograms are much less noticible (well generally)). Should the day come where I buy a new car with soft, dark paint, my Makita and I may no longer be on such good terms :) and I will be considering a Flex purchase.

Right. Don't get me wrong, I do *ok* with the rotaries- I can use the edge of the pad or the top side to go hard-to-reach areas, I don't throw sling all over, burning paint isn't an issue (even on plastic parts)... so it's not like I'm a klutz with them. Not like I ever felt I had a *problem* or anything.

But I don't consider myself a real Rotary-Meister and I can't finish out 100% hologram-free (never tried Ultrafina though).

And, well...I just don't like using them :nixweiss

How well does Purple Foamed Wool do on the Flex? I have let SuperBee corrupt me and I always find my self tossing my foam cutting pads to the side to find wool cutting pads for my Makita, particularily Purple Foamed Wool.

It's gotten so bad I am now using Edge Blue and White wool for polishing instead of Lake Country White and Black pads.

Yeah, Superbee364 and others have, well...let's just say they've had me doing my share to stimulate the economy :o

But I haven't tried any wool pads on the Flex, at least not yet.

Using the Flex 3401, orange foam with M105 worked like a miracle on the (never finished) M3 so I haven't been thinking about all those wool Edge pads I bought.

Won't be experimenting on any of *my* vehicles either ;)

I remember you trying the Purple Foamed Wool on a DA, was that a PC or a Cyclo? I am guess you did not own the Flex yet?

I think I remembered you saying you bought the Edge White Wool finishing pad. If so, I wouldn't be to worried about experiementing with it. The pad is so gentle, I was surprised by the finish I would able to make with it.

It was the 3.5" PFW on the PC, worked great.

I recently tried 4" wool pads (yellow and blue Edge wool from CycloToolmakers) on the Cyclo with *dismal* results...really surprised me how ineffective they were and sorta left me

Correct, though I can still see using the PC/3.5" PFW for spot-repairs. Sorta a substitute for the rotary with little pads; they seem similarly effective IME.

Yeah, it *oughta* be safe, but I think I'll let somebody else be the trailblazer when it comes to wool on the Flex ;)
