FK2180 and PW, not impressed....

KGB,

This is a question I cannot answer, because I have no experience with ClearKote products. Ask rather Scottwax, like I did a couple of days ago.

VM & RMG, topped with Natty's Blue seems to be an excessively wet combo (*maybe* my next order, as it depends on the answer of Scott) - but I have no clue about the bonding qualities of the mentioned package. Maybe a CK LSP, on the top of a poly will be your solution - assumed it'll have the wet look of VM & RMG.

PS: yep, those early Terminator prototypes sound awful :D

Makes me wonder if there's some family competition since both are run by a Meguiar..(Floyd started FK in the 60's)

I was curious about that when I saw his name. Is he related to Frank Meguiar? Is Floyd the black sheep of the family, perhaps?

Bence, something I've wondered about, but haven't had the guts to try, does 1000p bond over glazes? Its a syntheitc 'wax', as they call it. Just curious.

if you want a wet look with mettallic pop Tropicare XP has it in spades-2180 basecoat and TCXP on top could be the ideal combo

Pennypacker,

Yes. Floyd is 85 or 86 now (IIRC), and he is a chemist, obsessed with quality. He is not interested in marketing and flashy packaging and went a separate way when the family wanted to go a certain way. Barry is basically the showman, the marketing/packaging 'junkie', while Floyd doesn't accept compromises in product quality and puts less emphasis on an all-conquering brand perception. So, both Meguiar 'boys' have their own, distinct personality.

Just call FK, they will passionately tell stories... and they will tell that Floyd is a great storyteller himself.

Patrick,

:o

Joe,

I tried 1000P over FK 303, 1Z Wax Finish O.S. and Mothers Sealer & Glaze. It seems to be stable, but the applications are too fresh to make conclusions.

I apreciated this thread. I've wanted to try the FK line for some time now, but have held back because I have enough product and it's probably not the most prudent to buy more. This helps in the resolve, but I will still buy the FK stuff. I'm not that hard to please, I will probably love it.

Would you like a sample of the 2180?

I'm thinking 1000p would look stunning over some RMG on my dark blue metallic. Maybe I'll have to give it a shot sometime and report back.

Hmmmm, I just did a Black 650i with 2180 and was quite impressed with its slickness, and ease of use. To me, Black is certainly the most discriminating color to work on, I thought the 2180 passed with flying colors, looked great!
Up until now I was doing fine with FK1 - however 2180!?! ..... Here's My Situation: I moved on from Zaino about a year ago, much happier with Menzerna's FMJ/HGAS. Ordered the FK sampler + FX-100 & 425 < -- Love those two + 108 and 118SC too. Past two weekends I'm getting my butt kicked by 2180 - much more difficult both on AND off than FMJ ever was! * I gotta get past this before I order 215 to Polish (or go back to FPII/FMJ) Always used all of my products by Hand, need Help! ~ BTW, 425 or FX-100 is fabulous over FMJ! [since FX-100 is a Glaze, does it act like a mild polish/abrasive also?]

2180 has one little trick. The application must be slow and meticulous, and on certain finishes the initial layers can be a little bit harder. But as the 2180 fills the pores, each subsequent application will be easier and easier. After the 'filling' is complete, it will go on very easy and come off very easy. (If you used OCW on neglected finishes - it needs often 5 layers to be real smooth - you know what I am talking about.) Somehow the FKs love to be worked in really well.

A glaze is rather a concealing product, and not always has polishing/cleaning ability. The FX-100 is so mild that it doesn't even remove a permanent marker. Its cleaning ability is practically nil.

Well today I went out and did a PB's Spray and Wipe wash and applied CMW over the PW by PC and BOOM it lit up like a hillbilly on a Friday night in the mountains of Kentucky. I was seriously shocked what the CMW did to it. I am going to apply another coat tomorrow and see what happens.

For a reflective/wet combo, use Mothers FX, topped with Reflections Top Coat. FX is reflective and TC brings back the flake pop big time. Looks killer.

I like Reflections but it proved to be no where near as wet looking as Z2Pro/ZFX/Z8 on my car. On my metallic silver, Zaino has more clarity which I find increasingly correlated to looks and quality.

I think the hype was related to 425 not the others products by FK.

IMHO 425 and FX100 are the two best products I've tried since I first picked up a bottle of Klasse AIO.

For me its all about speed. I don't like spending 3 hours on the car and then take it to an autocross/track day where it gets FILTHY. THe FK 'twins' are so fast.

I'm looking for a new sealant to go over AIO. I'm considering Acylic Jet or EX with Nuba.

Any thoughts on which would go better with silver?

Lee, I recommended the FX+Reflections combo for a reflective, flake popping look, not for the ultimate liquid pool effect.

I recently tried 1000P over Z2Pro, and it gave even more wetness.

How subjective we are... For me the Z is like a perfect cover girl who has the necessary visual impact, does her job perfectly being beautiful, attracting a lots of glances, generating interest and subsequently sales... but... it is somehow lacking life and character for me. When I apply it I always ask myself: OK, very nice. And?

I want to try some CK products for pure wetness... but for me the 1000P & FX-100 is tough to beat.

How does #2180 compare to #21 I used #21 yesterday on my black toyota and it looks great very wet and very slick

#21 has a characteristic, very clean looking, silvery-chromy 'sub-layer under its wetness'. Very hard to explain but it makes it relatively easy to recognize.

2180 is a bit more neutral, it shows the colors in a more exact way, and doesn't darken the finish.
